Yeah, he felt like the little old guy who was just fun to watch and played his part well. Im actually surprised he was as young as he was. Id have pegged him a bit older.

Re: The 2019 Pro Wrestling Thread

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHIN, MEAN GENE!!!

NO ONE was better at the promo interview than Mean Gene Okerlund. No one. Ever. No one will ever be that good in that job again.

He's been one of the things that Pro Wrestling has badly missed over the last 10 or 15 years. (Whenever it was that Vince put him on the bench...)

I can't say that he'll be missed because he's already been greatly missed. Now it's just permanent.

It's sad to think everyone in this promo is dead except for Flair.

Hard to blame a guy going for "set for the rest of your life" money that I've heard Omega's been offered. Especially after he's already won everything in NJPW that he can. Omega seems like he should be able to adjust to WWE. Obviously can speak really well, charismatic, can work multiple styles, good size (not tall but he's gotten pretty jacked in the last couple of years).

Not sure about KUSHIDA, but supposedly he's fluent in English. He does show a lot of personality too (and his time travel entrance at WK13 was hilarious).

I love Cornette, but his hatred towards Omega from something he did early in his career (in a promotion that specialized in comedic wrestling) is pretty ridiculous.

Re: The 2019 Pro Wrestling Thread

KUSHIDA I think is bound for WWE... Omega I'm not so sure, the hints in the Being the Elite video kind of points to him taking some time off and going with his buddies when All Elite starts up, especially if they pay him something comparable, plus the thing with Tanahashi seems like kayfabe. But we'll see.

Either way, I'm all for him getting paid and getting his name out there.

I like Joey Ryan's character in Lucha Underground. A sleeze-bag, but no magical dick powers. I'm with you that bits like that have me questioning how I spend my free time.

So ... did anyone else watch Wrestle Kingdom 13? I enjoyed the show. I was surprised at how many shorter matches there were (even Okada was around 15 minutes). It let the main even (Omega/Tanahashi) shine as the only "epic" match. If anything, a number of matches felt like they needed a few more minutes but the show was already 4 hours long (not counting preshow).

I'm still waiting on the change that WWE promised last year. So far, shows have been exactly the same as they've been over the past 10 years.

And what's the big January change that the dirt sheets were reporting? It has to be more than Omega since more talent isn't what's needed to turn this thing around.

Re: The 2019 Pro Wrestling Thread

Another thing that is probably demoralizing backstage is that there aren't enough Rumble spots for every guy on the roster. There are around 40 male wrestlers per brand plus now all the NXT wrestlers moving up and the surprises. Tons of people are going to get left out.

Change isn't possible when you're so fundamentally out of touch with reality. Not only that but pro wrestling itself is kind of outdated in 2019. I think real change could only come about through complete reinvention of what the current product is. It's just so far gone from being presented as legitimate competition that putting the genie back in the bottle is impossible at this point.
