Gary Kubiak apparently coming out of retirement to be the Broncos OC

and with Kitchens hiring, Browns fire Gregg Williams. Looks like Kitchens is the one getting most of the credit for the Browns turnaround.

Kutchens deserves credit. Look up the numbers washed up Carson Palmer put up with him during his Cardinals tenure.

The rational here is probably that the Browns didn't want to lose Kitchens a year later to another HC job had they only kept him as the OC. They are clearly prioritizing the offense and the development of Mayfield and would rather lose Greg Williams and the hit to their defense.

I realize you may have insider info, but he wasn't the OC during that time, and it's very hard to assign credit to QB coaches vs the OC. Did he call plays (assuming not as that is almost always HC or OC)?

But he did great in 8 games as OC. It's just that it was the only time he's even been as high as OC at any level. Still, that doesn't mean he can't do the job, and I get that the Browns probably felt a bit backed into a corner.

He was heavily involved in the offense planning for the Cardinals. I would have to check with my guy to find out about how involved he was, so I don't know if he actually called plays in a game other than maybe preseason games. Arians was good about letting his coaches do that. Palmer absolutely raves about the guy helping him return to form, from what I remember.

Wow, Jets hire Adam Gase as head coach

McCarthy might not get a gig in 2019.

Fuck!

McCarthy would have brought immediate respect to the Jets, and was the best coach available to erase the "same old Jets" mentality. I don't think Gase is the guy.

McCarthy said tonight he won't be pursuing an NFL job until 2020.

Two openings left. Bengals and Dolphins. Man these jobs filled up fast.

It's a copycat league and after Goff and Mahomes, everybody wants a head coach with a reputation as a Quarterback Whisperer for their young QB.

McCarthy wanted to coach the Jets though. There's not many people who would admit to that

Kingsbury is on record (prior to his Kardinals job) stating if Kyler Murray was available and he had the first pick in the draft, he'd take him.... probably expected to be hit by lightning before these events unfolded like they have. FWIW, reports are that Murray is entering the draft.

I guess the Bengals job is the only one left if Gase is taking over the Dolphins. Are we expecting a Hue Jackson announcement?

Bengals and Dolphins are the only 2 remaining vacancies left.

Cards interviewing McAdoo, Vance Joseph for staff - NFL.com

Kingsbury interviewing Ben McAdoo and Vance Joseph for Coordinator jobs.

Gase just got fired by the Dolphins. He's been hired by the Jets

My guess is that there will be no Bengal announcement while the Chiefs are still playing football.

Looks like this may be wrong. Zac Taylor is reportedly the guy they want.

Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

Mike McCarthy does not want the Miami job?

ABC wants to get back into the NFL and attract people that have dicks to watch their network again.

They have been out of the NFL for 14 years.

I think the ideal scenario would be if they got the MNF package again.

It would be hard to see FOX or CBS giving up their packages

FOX and CBS hold the rights to the Sunday afternoon TV packages until 2022, but a new player might want in on negotiations with the NFL for a new deal. Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reports that ABC is ďkicking around the idea of going hardĒ after either CBSí or FOXís package. ESPN and ABC both are owned by Disney, and ESPNís Monday Night Football deal ends after the 2021 season.

FOXís Thursday night and NBCís Sunday night packages are up in 2022.

Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

Why doesn't the NFL start games (with the new tv contract)at noon and then 3pm and then 6 pm and then SNF at 9pm. That would give ABC a time slot or a rotating double header with the other networks.

Another idea would be a third conference(one conference per network) but then there would be needed expansion to 36 teams(12 teams per conference).

The NFL is way behind the other sports as far as expansion is concerned plus not having a minor league hurts in the development of reserve players(which would fill most expansion team rosters).

Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

Those times are pacific? I wish there were no 10am games.

Don't make 6:30am as a regular spot for NFL games like they do with the London games

If the Directv package is not renewed maybe give ABC 2 -4 AFC and NFC games every Sunday and let FOX and CBS have some games so NFL football would be on three networks on Sunday afternoons.

Those would be Eastern Times.

Other sports start games at 12 noon Eastern and the NFL has no problem with 930am Eastern(don't like those early starts) however starting the Sunday night games at 9pm Eastern shouldn't be a problem(afterall Monday Night Football started at that time for a long time)

Ex-Detroit Lions head coach Rick Forzano has passed away. He was 90.

He was too good for the Lions. Almost produced a winning record.
