That's two of the Jets' three Pro Bowlers (and who'd have thought a 4-12 team would garner even that?). Hate to see them go, but kickers not named Vinitieri or Gostkowski tend to be streaky as hell, and you don't overpay them. Same with a 30 year old return guy.
Agreed about Josh Meyers - he was great last year but you're right, kickers are streaky. Jets can find a kicker for far less of a financial commitment.

I'll miss Andre Roberts - he brought fire to the return game. We haven't see that as Jets fans since Leon Washington. I'll wait to see the contract he signed before judging but assuming it's a big amount, I think it's ok for him to go too. He's not an all time return guy, it's very possible his season had a lot of luck mixed in with talent.

I'm reading now that the Jets have only guaranteed Bell 2 years. I think that's great, if he ends up being a mistake, they can cut bait rather easily. Plus it gives Bell incentive to actually work, since he'd be leaving a hell of a lot of money on the table if he isn't motivated.

WTF are the Giants doing? They trade OBJ and they give Tate a $37M contract with $23.5M guaranteed.

I have to believe that they predicted that OBJ was going to be a head case, bitching and moaning, if they sucked. Fearing an Antonio Brown situation and saw what little PIT got in that trade....so basically a preemptive move.

Signing Tate also kills the third-rounder they were going to get for losing Collins. Wouldn’t a pick be better for the Giants than an expensive, aging receiver?

Tate is the ultimate (though aging) YAC receiver though. If your QB can't throw down the field anymore, I guess he's a decent enough option.

I think Tate signing is more about him not caring about winning. Sure, get paid but the Giants??

Somehow this makes him an even better "deal." Let Chubb handle the workload early, still have time to incorporate a fresh Hunt in before the playoffs (if they make it) and you don't have to pay him until he takes the field.

He's already got a ring and this might be his last contract, so I don't blame him. I doubt there were any other offers near that size.

That's pretty good insurance for often injured Mariota.

Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

Tyreek Hill being investigated by police for alleged battery.

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nf...227983684.html

A source familiar with the situation said Hill’s fiancee has been in contact with Overland Park police. The source said that the incident was against the couple’s 3-year-old son, resulting in a broken arm.
yikes if true. A reminder of Hill's history before the Chiefs drafted him:

Hill has a history of domestic violence. He reportedly punched and choked Espinal, who was then eight weeks pregnant with their son, on Dec. 11, 2014. He was arrested and dismissed from the Oklahoma State football team. Hill pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation in August 2015. He received three years probation. The Chiefs selected Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Man Dorsey's Browns are going to be elite at WR soon. Ok, ok, that was tasteless.

This is bad news for the Chiefs. You hoped that they learned their lessons but it doesn’t seem to be the case with Hunt and Hill.

Well shit. There's a reason he lasted until the 3rd round of the draft.
