Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

I wonder if some team will call Mel Kiper for a GM job?

Maybe this could be a good hire or a disaster since it is easier making predictions and analysis of draft picks when you don't have to make them.

The Raiders, coming off a 4-12 season in Jon Gruden's first year as coach, have hired NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock as their general manager

Calling it "the formal unification of something that has been going on for a really long time," Mike Mayock said the timing was finally right, as the longtime NFL Network draft analyst was introduced as the Oakland Raiders' general manager on Monday.

Mayock also interviewed "10 or 12 years ago" with late Raiders owner Al Davis.

"I flew out here clandestinely to meet Mr. Al Davis and he took me into this building, and he hid me for eight hours and he grilled me on everything, as you know, and I came out of the building that day with my head spinning," Mayock said. "Nobody ever knew for a couple of years that he and I had talked about a potential job with the Oakland Raiders that long ago. So, I think the harmonic convergence of what's happened today is kind of cool.

Mayock is a good talent evaluator and as GM, he only has to pick for one team, not 32.

QBs' values get over-inflated the closer we get to April, hence teams trading up for Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, and Mitch Trubisky the last couple of years. The fact that they've all done extremely well only makes it more of an issue.

So my prediction is a team will trade into the top 5 (or maybe even a trade within the top 5), and at least one QB will be selected in the top 3.

21m in dead money cap hit. No way they are trading him. They would be better off getting rid of Tomlin, which they should. Ben is close to retirement every year it seems too.

Beautiful to see this team falling apart.

The Steelers offense would go go completely down the drain if Antonio Brown is gone.

They were terrible against the Bengals and James Conner can not replace Leveon Bell.

With the Colts, Quentin Nelson and Darius Leonard, they become first Rookie teammates selected to the All NFL team since HoFers Butkis and Sayers in 1965. That is a successful draft class.

Matt LaFleur hired as Packers head coach. The Packers watched the Titans offense last year, right?

He comes from the McVey/Shanahan coaching tree so they hope lightning strikes twice.

Heck, teams are interviewing Kliff Kingsbury, a guy who was just fired by his alma mater. In fact his wikipedia page already says he's the head coach of the Cardinals, though it's wikipedia.

Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

Looks like Kliff Kingsbury quit his USC OC job to take interviews for NFL head coaching vacancies. He was employed by them less than 1 month.

Kliff Kingsbury clear to interview with Cardinals, Jets - NFL.com

He's no longer listed on the USC roster of coaches

Good lord. He couldn't cut it in Lubbock.

If these guys are getting calls, at this rate, John Harbaugh is sitting pretty. Just coach out with the Ravens next year and hit the open market.

Lynn Swann will probably be following him out the door soon enough. He's been a terrible AD so far.

I truly believe that Harbaugh wants to stay with the Ravens and they will get a deal done. Strange for a franchise that was once owned by Modell to place any value on loyalty but that is how they have been over the years.

Re: 2019 NFL Off-Season Thread

Felger(of Felger & Mazz,Boston Sports Hub Radio) was mentioning yesterday that having a good running game doesn't mean anything.

He is of the belief that every NFL QB is HoF material no matter their career W-L record or success or failure during the playoffs..

My question is -Where does Mathew(Never Won A Playoff Game) Stafford rank is passing yardage over the last ten seasons?

The point I am trying too prove is passing yardage is meaningless(especially when your team is constantly trailing in the game).

If they played each other in a playoff game it would end in a scoreless tie(the first ever tie playoff game).

so if these are the only 2 guys, the Browns new HC is going to be a guy who has less than one season of experience as an OC, let alone any experience as a HC at any level? Wow. I am rooting for the Browns, but this could be the most Browns thing ever.

C'mon now, give them some credit, they would each throw at least one pick six.
