2018 College Football Week 14: Championship Saturday.

Here's the schedule for this week's games. I need to go ahead and put new batteries in my remote as I can see a lot of channel switching on Saturday.

So a dramatic but not overly convincing win for OU. Still, OSU had to be hoping for a squeakier win here. They will have to absolutely obliterate Northwestern to overcome the baked in bias inherent to OU being ranked one higher than them. This, of course, assumes that Bama wins.

Wow, exciting start to Bama/UGA and Tua might be hurt.

Isn't Bama in regardless? This is the same system that has twice shoe-horned Alabama into the championships without winning their division, let alone conference. Once when only two teams made it. Let's not kid ourselves, the committee will bend over backwards to make sure Alabama is in

It basically seems like it's either Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Georgia (if Georgia wins) or Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma (if Georgia loses)

Yeah, I'll say Tosu is pretty much eliminated. Their 1 loss is way worse than OU's.

Jfoobar is coming from it what would it take for the Buckeyes to get in. Alabama would have to knock Georgia out, otherwise GA and Bama are both likely in, killing the 4 spot (like you have in your scenarios).

I donít see them leapfrogging OU. They definitely donít deserve to.

On the other hand, Ohio State's best win is quite a bit better than Oklahoma's best win. And they also have more wins against Top 25 opponents than Oklahoma. Their loss is really bad though and even with those better wins and possibly blowing out Northwestern tonight, I still don't think they're in.

Exactly. It was recent (last week), decisive, and against the #4 team in the country as ranked by the very same people that now put OSU 6th. The are hypocritically devaluing their very own ranking system, effectively.

Prior to today, OU had absolutely eeked out a win against the #13 team and has no other remotely impressive win on its card except a win over the good, but not great, Iowa State Cyclones (now #23, 8-4). The only ranked team (at the time of the game) that OU played all season prior to the Mountaineers last week was a loss to Texas. OSU, on the other hand, has wins over teams then ranked #18, #15, #9 and #4. And while they did lose to Purdue, its not like Purdue is horrible. They finished 6-6 in the Big Ten, second in the west.

Here are two things that hurt OSU beyond just their Purdue loss. One, they just barely beat Maryland who, their big upset of Texas in week one aside, only finished 5-7. Two, no matter how badly they beat Northwestern, I don't think a lot of people really believe Northwestern is as good as its ranking because, well, its Northwestern.

If UGA beat them soundly, I'm not sure they would be. So long as the loss is close-ish, hard to see Bama not getting in.

Seems like they should have had Hurts in the whole game.

The question of the day is did today's game cost Tua the Heisman?

Where do you guys stand about the UCF situation? Another unbeaten season, but look who they have played. Not exactly the cream of the crop and that's putting it mildly.

Their AD was lobbying for them to make the College Football Playoff after their win over Memphis today. I just don't see it happening.

Won't ever happen, and shouldn't either. Let them hang another banner if they want to, but there is no case where they are one of the four best teams in the country.

Going to bed, but NW is only down 10 on OSU and looks to be about to score again. This is not the one-sided rout that OSU needed to have any chance of overtaking OU. So unless the voters decided that UGA is still one of the top 4, OU will be in the bracket.

Here's my counter-argument: last year. Auburn beat #1 Alabama, the eventual national champion and finished the year #12. UCF went undefeated and then beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

Is this year's UCF as good as last year's? I honestly have no idea, but a pretty good argument can be made for them being one of the top 4 teams last year. At the very least, for them to only be #10 going into the Peach Bowl was an insult.

The Peach Bowl, and every bowl game that isn't part of the playoff, is a meaningless exhibition game. Auburn didn't want to be there.

Agreed, there's no case for them to be one of the four best teams in the country. But UCF is one of the best cases for expanding the playoff to eight teams. A four team playoff really gives no chance for an undefeated team with a schedule like UCF's to prove that they might be the best, but an eight team playoff gives them much more potential.

I don't know how things are in your neck of the woods, but SEC teams take pride in being ranked and play to win in bowl games. UCF beat Auburn fair and square.

Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma
anything else is a joke of a CFP selection.

Re: 2018 College Football Week 14: Championship Saturday.

I don't see how Georgia, a team with two losses, one being a 20 point loss to LSU and didn't win their conference, came in at five over a one loss Conference Champion Ohio St.

I guess the Playoff Committee couldn't get past OSU's huge loss to a 6-6 Purdue team.
