If my grandmother batted lefthanded then Roberts would bring in a lefty reliefer no matter how good the current pitcher was pitching.

Felger & Mazz (Boston Sports Hub) are ripping Roberts for keeping their 4 top HR hitters on the bench.

Roberts would rather make 10 changes during a game and lose rather than make 2 changes and win.

It's funny, as a Dodger fan I disagree with all the heat Roberts is getting about the platoon. He's been doing it for months, and in my opinion the reason they were able to sneak their way in to the playoffs and win the division and get to the World Series. I think it's weird, now that they're down 2-0, to act like he's a fool and doesn't know what he's doing after making it to the World Series two years in a row.

Re: 2018 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

Even as a Red Sox fan, I was not that confident going into the post season. I knew they had the best outfield defense in the game, and despite a questionable bullpen, they had a great regular season offense and starting pitching. I had my doubts that they would be able to display all that against tougher competition in the post season.

But they have, and more. After the way they handled NY and Houston, I'm a believer. I did not foresee the bullpen and the bottom of the order performing as well as they have.

I think LA can win a game or two, but I just don't see them outscoring the Red Sox in four out of the next five.

I agree with what you're saying, but there will be more Monday Morning QB'ing then ever in this day and age of Analytics simply because they make so many more moves.

10-15 years ago, the elite teams had their pitchers go 7 innings, and had an 8th inning setup guy, and a 9th inning closer. There really wasn't much to question on a Manager other then maybe bringing in a lefty in the 7th inning to pitch to a lefty, or possibly taking out the starter too soon, or leaving him in too long (Pedro 2003 ALCS Game 7).

Now that the game has changed and Managers are yanking pitchers before the 5th inning, then there are so many moves to debate simply because you have a parade of pitchers for more then half of the game. That is why I believe Analytics overthinks things as sometimes you have to manage from your gut. It kind of reminds me of supposed 'great' athletes that come out of the NFL Combine, that doesn't mean they are going to be great NFL players, because a great athlete doesn't always = a great NFL player.

Re: 2018 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

Is the big controversy the fact that Roberts had his "home run hitters" on the bench? People who are shitty against lefties shouldn't play against lefties. That goes back decades before analytics.

The Dodgers play virtually everything by the percentages. I don't think Roberts is making any of these decisions, he's a yes-man for the front office.

What's gone wrong is that parts of the Dodgers' platoons have gone ice cold. K ike Hernandez looks lost at the plate. Many have questioned sitting their powerful left-handed bats for K ike and others.

I just discovered that this forum automatically censors K ike's name.

MLB should eliminate the Sun games so they don't compete with SNF.

I guess that lefthanded power can come in handy after all!

Buelher is still dealing closing the 7th but a one run lead is still the razor's edge.

Seven innings? That’s doing the work of like five guys!

Need more runs, Dodgers!

I'm not sure I would be putting Jansen in for a two inning save with a one run lead. Hope it was the right move

I guess no worries about a 2 inning save. Jansen has been stank when it counted this year.

And compete with TNF and MNF? That's exactly why they do the Series this way. They set it so only to compete one night against NFL.

And notice that SNF is good teams in markets not likely to make a WS. The NFL knows what they are doing.

MLB needs to start WS games earlier. Killing the east coast with these games. Sure you don't care about that.

3 1/2 hours to play 1-1 thru 9. Yeah, MLB. Only watching because Friday (or Sat) night. Didn't even bother watching the first 2 games.

And this wasn't even mid-inning pitching changes.

Bellinger makes up for his baserunning blunder with a great throw to the plate.

Eovaldi throwing some serious gas. Guess he’s in line for a big FA payday just before he blows out his elbow.

Rip. Geez what a terrible inning and it's not over yet. Nunez was gimpy and still beat that throw, even if they were able to field it right.
