I can't find the post right now, but I recall predicting these would be the game 1 division series starters.

It would be fun to see the Braves win, the Dodgers are an old and tired story after six years.

Agreed, but many of the Braves' best players have been playing on fumes the past month.

Acuna basically carried this team the past two months. Freeman and Markakis were often holes in the line-up during August and September.

Unless Folty is the second coming of John Smoltz, I don't like my Braves' chances. This Dodgers team is not as good as last year's group. Kenley is not the ace reliever this time around with his heart condition.

Let the Dodgers win the World Series once this generation, and then their story can be old and tired. :P

Re: 2018 MLB Playoffs, Division Series Edition

I checked the score expecting to see that the Brewers' bullpen had locked it down, but no!

I figured the Brewers were playing the best ball and would walk over whoever made it through the wild card game. It would make me feel worse about the Cubs if the Rockies knocked them off.

Ryu I was happy with the Dodgers decision to start him over an iffy Kershaw and it looks like it paid off.

I don't know if I'd call Kershaw "iffy", but it's nice that they can go to him in Game 2, with the Braves already down and probably a little frustrated. I'll take Kershaw in Game 2 on extra rest and Game 5, if needed, on regular rest with Bueller and Ryu to start in the intervening games.

Iffy probably isn't the right word for me to use, but after an average September (3.89 ERA) and an obviously rocky post season history, I just no longer have the excitement at the thought of Kershaw dominating for the Dodgers in the playoffs. I honestly have more hope in Ryu and Buehler this year.

8.0 IP, 0 ER, 3H, 3 K, 0BB, PC85/SC63. Not a bad line for an iffy starter.

Of the three series in which I have a preference (not MIL-COL), my preferred team lost today.

It was really disappointing for me when they wouldn't let Kershaw pitch the ninth. He had a super-low pitch count and had been cruising the entire game.

Given his dodgy playoff history, it would have been sweet to see him finish out the game.

It was just as important to get a Save for Jansen, who was looking really shaky since his return from a health scare.

Atlanta is the first team to open their postseason with back-to-back scoreless efforts in 97 years.

I'm glad he proved me wrong

I hope that his somewhat diminished velocity means he's not trying to overpower guys and going for the strikeout and being crafty instead to more success. Crossing my fingers that THIS is finally the year we get a dominant Kershaw in the playoffs?

While I can't stand the Dodgers, I have nothing against Kershaw personally, and a redemptive story would be kind of cool. I would probably even root for them against the damn Red Sox.

It was like watching Maddox in his prime last night. Hopefully this is the start of his learning to transition to being more of a finesse pitcher

I think it was more about facing a team full of tired and inexperienced hitters. Kershaw's stuff is greatly diminished these days, even his curveball. But he's still quite competitive and knows how to pitch around his limitations.

I'm not sure how the Braves are any more tired then any other team in the playoffs right now, especially since they weren't in a division race down the stretch; and the only "inexperience" would be Acuna and Albies?

Meanwhile...

Buehler giving up the Grand Slam

Dodgers fighting back.

Damn, Dodgers with 2 on and no outs in the 9th but the Braves get out of it striking out the side. On to Game 4.

Dodgers!

On to the formidable Brewers in the NLCS!

Machado has already made a big difference. Glad they got him, hope they can keep him.
