Say what you will about the signing and perhaps some cynical reasons for the size of the fee, but the fact that the 25th largest transfer fee in the history of the sport (10th for the Premier League) was paid for an American is historic.

Hopefully this isn't a Bob Bradley moment. No pressure Christian, noooo pressure.

Sure thought it was a goal in live time.

I thought Henderson and especially Milner did you no favours in midfield. And with Bernardo and Fernandinho controlling in the middle, Wijnaldum was forced inside, exposing Trent Alexander, who was bad. I'd say he was the worst on the pitch, but you still have Lovren, so...

Still, the schedule favours you guys and four points is still a nice lead at this point of the season.

I was annoyed Fabinho did not start the game.

Start Milner or Henderson. Never both.

Agreed on Alexander-Arnold and Lovren.

Milner and Henderson do not work well together IMHO. And TAA was awful yesterday. Outside of the balls to Robertson he was bad. He might be ok going forward but I defensively he is poor.

Lovren - man I cannot tell you how much I dislike this guy. He is one of the poorest CBs around and he doesn't help his cause when he exclaims at the World Cup he is the best the defender in the world. What a tool.

I said to my friends at Xmas when I was back in England that if Liverpool lost to Man City over the Xmas period that they'd choke. They tended to disagree, but I still think they'll end up second.

Re: The all-inclusive 2018-19 football/futbal/fußball/voetbal/calcio/soccer thread

I don't want terribly much EPL, so take the following with that in mind.

I've always been an admirer of Laporte, knowing he would go on to better things than staying in Bilbao. Wanted him at Barcelona, so I knew he was good, but he is extremely good. His vision and passing for the position is truly world class.

I also think Silva may be the best player in the PL. Bernardo Silva that is.

Lastly, and sadly, I don't see City being kept out of the top spot. They have too much depth. Sorry. Of course, we perhaps should not read too much into Chelsea's performance today, as they have quite clearly given up.

Going to be tough for them. They only have 25 senior players, 60 Under-21 players currently registered with the Premier League, youngsters who emerge through their youth system over the next two years, and the 42 players they currently have out on loan to choose from.

(Thanks to the Guardian for the figures)

Kind of a mess of a game today, and not very exciting, but I'm glad OGS's men were able to hold the bin dippers to a draw.

Certainly wasn't a classic.

Dissapointed with the draw. Man City wouldve throttled them in the same circumstances.

Kepa staying in and disobeying Sarri just shows you the state of disarray Chelsea is in.
