I think the Phillies actually want to sign Manny and think trading for him would be a perfect test.

Kinda hating myself for sitting here watching the home run derby for the first time in as long as I can remember, but it's pretty entertaining.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. That was a fun HR Derby and the hometown guy won.

Besides, if you feel shame for watching the Derby, how should I feel about switching back and forth between it and an NBA Summer League Semifinal game?

The Home Run Derby is fun

I used to love the MLB All-Star Game, of all the sports it was the one played closest to the actual game and in pre-interleague/less player movement days .. the game used to be played with a pretty good edge to it. Not just the Rose/Fosse deal, but they played hard.

The artificial "win home field thing" could not bring that back and really nothing every will.

I do not claim to know what the answer is to make the game itself more entertaining, but I will say the NHL has taken over as the most entertaining all-star game to me now. That said, baseball is still light years ahead of the NFL.

Being a Phillies fan, I have been following this day to day. The Phillies would definitely re-sign Machado, as our Team President (Andy McPhail) is from the Baltimore Organization when they drafted him. That is why I believe the only reason the Phillies make this trade is they have a wink-wink agreement with Machado that he will not test Free Agency in the offseason. The Phillies payroll is one of the lowest in the league, so they can pay Machado what he wants, plus they recently signed a new 20 year/2 billion dollar TV deal with Comcast. The latest is that Baltimore will trade before the weekend, and it's between the Phillies, Brewers and Dodgers. The Orioles want our #1 Pitching Prospect, Sixton Sanchez, who is 19 years old and throws 100 mph. As of right now, the Phillies are offering their #2 pitching prospect, not what other players are on the table.

The HR derby was fun. The current format of the derby gives it more potential to be entertaining and this year it delivered on that potential and then some. I'm not really a fan of Harper, but seeing his late rush of consecutive HRs in the final in front of the home fans was pretty great.

Ouch, but not surprising considering the product they're putting out there. And it's not like an O's fan wants to watch Machado.

The owner is too cheap to let Chris Tillman go and just pay him the remainder of his contract.

Tillman is so bad he can't even get minor leaguers out.

They fail too improve themselves on the field and it show's on their tv ratings and I haven't heard about their overall home attendance.

Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter have their fingers crossed that they acquire nothing but useless one inning relievers and avoid acquiring players that can help them right away.

It'll be interesting to see where Machado lands. While it'd suck for the Cubs if the Brewers added him for the playoff run, it might be a positive thing in the long run if they give up major assets and he leaves in the offseason.

Orioles expected to trade Manny Machado to the Dodgers

The Baltimore Orioles, barring a last minute snag, will trade All-Star shortstop Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, according to a baseball official with direct knowledge of the deal.

The official spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the trade has not been finalized.

Though, the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies could still be in the mix.

The Dodgers appear to be going all in with Machado for a two-plus month rental. At the break, they are 53-43 and sit in first place in the National League West. They lead the Arizona Diamondbacks by a 1/2 game and the Colorado Rockies by two games.

With the season-ending surgery to Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, Machado would likely play shortstop for the Dodgers.

Machado's been at the forefront of trade rumors over the last several weeks. On Monday, he addressed his future during the 45-minute media availability in Washington, D.C. before the All-Star Game.

“I have no idea," Machado said about where he thinks he will end up. "At this point, it doesn’t matter. I can’t control it. Just get it over with already, go on and not answer these questions no more."

Entering the All-Star break, Machado is batting .315 with 24 homers, 65 RBI and a .963 OPS.

Wow. Okay. I just hope they didn't give up too much (though it's hard to imagine that they didn't part with some good pieces given how many suitors there were). A 2-month rental, they better play well this post-season!

As a Phillies fan, I'm mixed on Machado going to the Dodgers. Their offense could greatly use his bat. But despite being in 1st place at the AS break, I don't believe in them for this year (at least for being title contenders). So I'm good with holding onto the prospects and make a push to sign him in the off-season for a 2019 (and beyond) run.

I'm conflicted on giving up a lot for Machado too, knowing that it's likely the rental assuming Seager is back and healthy next year. But I like the Dodgers going all in this year, so fuck it?

It's a fair point. But even when they were absolutely terrible and 10 games under 500, Baseball Prospectus still had them at about 50% chance of making the Playoffs (they're 79% now).

They are only the second team to drop 10 games below 500 and still manage to win 50 games (53 actually) before the ASB.

Didn't they have a crazy pair of streaks last year, like they lost 20 and won 20?

Only second team in history of baseball to have a 20-5 stretch and a 5-20 stretch in the same season. August was BRUTAL.

The Dodgers need pitching more than Machado in the playoffs.

The Orioles also have a dime-a-dozen relievers.
