I don't see how Darvish isn't the run away winner of this poll.

It's between the long term contracts for me and I went with Darvish.

Hosmer probably won't be worth the money in the long run but up until this point, he's played pretty much like Eric Hosmer.

Yu, on the other hand, has either been hurt or been bad. Not what the Cubs were expecting, I'm sure.

Alex Cobb has been terrible for a team that really needed solid innings from a starter. Darvish could always be converted to the bullpen and immediately become one of the league's best relievers. Darvish can still be salvaged with the right coaching.

Cobb looks out of shape and worse than he's ever pitched in his life. It's another disastrous pitching sign by the Orioles.

It's a shorter deal, but I have real concerns about the Wade Davis contract. He put up nice numbers with the Cubs last year but was already showing cracks, and he's at the age where he could easily become completely useless. I think Cobb and Darvish still have time to turn it around.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 12 Jun 18-24

For right now, Darvish is the clear winner here .. but there is plenty of time (and not just this season) for him to get back on track ... with his contract, even if he is a really good 3 or a good 2 ... that is pretty much in line with what they are paying him compared to what clear #1s make

Edit: If you take the Rockies bullpen signings as a whole ... they are #2 on this list

Wow, Nationals jump the market by grabbing closer Kelvin Herrera from the Royals. He was expected to be one of the top deadline targets.

The biggest reason why I don't think Hosmer's deal is bad, even if he underperforms, is because the Padres are a very young team. They needed veteran leadership and Hosmer seems like a quiet leader that can help shape that team. Sometimes you need to pay for more than just production on the field..

It was nice of Mike Matheny to intentionally walk the game-winning run last night.

I thought the Cubs abused Davis down the stretch last year. It was clear they weren't resigning him and decided to beat him like a rented mule.

Davis knows this was likely his final big contract. He was already losing stuff and moving to Colorado hasn't helped.

Giants closer, Hunter Strickland, broke his hand after punching a door (after last night's blown save)

This is great news! He is terrible, despite what this year's stats say.

Awful since 2014 postseason. The scouting report on Strickland - just get in his head, piss him off, and you'll win the at-bat easily. He'll most likely give up a HR right away.

He really doesn't have much in his arsenal beyond a decent fastball. It crippled the Giants when Melancon turned out to be a huge bust.

Yeah, that late loss sucked, but otherwise pretty good with your closer out.

They rode him hard no question, but he was showing some cracks before then too. Some of his peripheral numbers were declining.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa started his first big league game at Catcher for the Rangers last night, and ended the game by throwing out a base runner in the 9th Wish Texas could play KC every night.

As for that Darvish contract, it's exactly why I wasn't too keen on the Rangers spending a lot to resign him. He hasn't been the same post TJ. Wish him all the best though as he was really fun to watch.

Phanatic's flying hot dog leaves Phillies fan with facial injuries

The Phillie Phanatic has been launching hot dogs into the stands at Philadelphia Phillies games for years -- first at Veterans Stadium and now at Citizens Bank Park -- without any injuries.

That changed Monday night.

Using his customary launcher, the Phanatic sent a hot dog to fans behind home plate, where Kathy McVay was sitting. Battling a shoulder injury that will require surgery, McVay was unable to catch or deflect the hot dog, which was wrapped in duct tape so it wouldn't disintegrate upon launch.

The hot dog struck McVay in the face, and she underwent a CT scan to make sure she didn't have a concussion, according to Philadelphia's WPVI.

"It just came out of nowhere. And hard," McVay told WPVI.

McVay, who told the TV station that she's a big fan of the team and doesn't plan legal action, said the hot dog knocked her glasses off, and she has to apply ice to her facial injury every 20 minutes.

"I have a small hematoma in my eye," McVay said. "And mostly, it's going to get worse before it gets better. It's going to go down the side of my face."

McVay said the Phillies reached out to her on Tuesday to apologize, and they have offered her tickets to a future game when she wants to return.

McVay has a message for fans at future games so they avoid meeting a similar fate.

"Just to be aware because you never know. I understand a baseball, but not a hot dog," she said with a subtle laugh.

McVay realizes some might get a laugh at her expense out of the situation, and she understands.

"It gives people a good laugh," McVay told WPVI, "and if that makes somebody chuckle, then that's fine."

Looks like Buffalo, New York is now completely New York YANKEES area first (which is fine by me as they are my team) as we are getting the Seattle Mariners at Boston Red Sox game this week since well the Red Sox are the Yankees main rivial. (We did get last Saturdays Red Sox at Mariners game too.) Before we would have got the Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets game since well the Mets are based in New York. No brainer for Saturday, June 30 as 100% sure we will be getting Red Sox at Yankees as the FOX game of the week.

Why is FS1 using a Yankee announcer for the NYY/Tampa Bay game?
