Well, at 32-20, the Mariners are withstanding the curse of the teal and compass rose so far.

Interesting review going on in Pittsburgh after Rizzo took out the catcher attempting the 6-2-3 DP. He didn't go out of his way but he did slide into his legs and made him throw it into RF allowing two runs to score. Umps reviewed and said the slide was OK.

I read somewhere recently that Seattle has had the easiest schedule in MLB so far, having avoided most of the top teams in the league while playing a bunch of games against the AL Central which has been weak. And of course, that is soon to change over the next 40 or so games. So we'll know soon enough if they are for real.

I moved to a city that has Spectrum as the cable provider, so now I get to watch Dodger games

Nice little come back win tonight.

First look at the replay just now. Borderline dirty play by Rizzo on a blatant attempt to take out the catcher. On the old takeout situation at 2nd base, the middle infielders could at least see the runner coming. As a catcher turns to first base, he's as vulnerable as they come. You could make a case that he didn't even need to slide at all.

I understand Maddon put some of the blame on the catcher for not getting further away from the plate, calling what Rizzo did the perfect play.

And apparently MLB might be indicating that the umps and the review were both wrong and interference should have been called. Link

It was dirty. Rizzo plays hard and is one of the biggest players on the field. But he's a popular Cubs player, which means he's safe. Some baseball forums on the net pretty much believe the Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs get special treatment from replay reviews.

Whoever thought that having a baseball game be a facebook stream only sucks at making decisions.

++++

The catcher was out of the batters boxes and his back was turned to the runner.

I think it's a market test to see if MLB can go streaming-only for broadcasts. In about ten years the current cable business model will likely implode and they want to be ahead of the curve.

Cards were all set to lose a heartbreaker tonight. Up 4-0 in the first inning, fell behind 8-5, but then score 5 in the 9th to beat the Pirates.

Scored 5 runs without getting an out. Saw that Reyes was put on the DL. Damn!

I'm starting to get nervous about Kershaw's health. He didn't look healthy in his start and needed help from the umpire calling a wide zone. Now he's getting his back tested for problems.

Russell Wilson(Seahawks QB) is part of a group that wants to bring MLB (expansion) baseball to Portland,OR.

If you ever watched Tampa Bay play Baltimore, then there should never ever be MLB expansion. Afterall the Orioles have a third baseman and reserve outfielder(Peterson and Gentry) who will never bat above .200.

Baseball would be better off contracting the Rays and Padres than adding teams. But from what I hear, Manfred has a mandate to add two expansion teams within the next five years. The owners want those lucrative expansion fees before the cable business model implodes.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 9 May 28-Jun 3

Tampa should merge with Miami and play games in Florida in various cities.

Either that or move Tampa Bay to the NL and Washington to the AL.

I think MLB needs a 3 player taxi squad. Every time a team has a double header they become dumbfounded.

I can remember back in 1965-last weekend of the regular season Phillies vs Mets.
Friday night-rained out
Saturday night-double header(because of previous night rain out). Second game went 18 innings. 0-0 tie.
Sunday-another double header (because of the previous night tie game). One of the games went 13 innings.
So in less than 24 hours the Phillies and Mets played 49 innings. Imagine something like that happening today especially with managers like Buck Showalter who believes that relief pitchers are only good for one inning(no matter the score or circumstance).

Note:the first game of the Phillies/Mets Saturday double header is on You Tube(Classic Baseball radio broadcasts).

He is back on the DL.

Bruce Kison has passed away. He started for Pittsburgh and won the first World Series night game back in 1971. He had been a scout for Baltimore.

cubs finished off a nice road trip, hopefully they can continue to have success.

A Sac Fly to 4, don't see that one very often.

Aggressive baserunning led to both runs. Nice to be able to manufacture runs when other things aren't working.
