Best to get a new thread going instead of discussing that debacle of a Cubs-Cards series.

I've heard lots of griping from Cubs' fans about Heyward's fielding this season. That contract looks even worse if he's already declining with the glove.

With nearly 4 full seasons to go, it's far too early to know if a work stoppage is coming.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 6 May 7-13

While not specifically referring to the series over the weekend, I'm just glad the Cardinals/Cubs rivalry could be a little more competitive. Certainly there were years when it was one sided in the favor of St. Louis. The last couple of seasons have swung the other way. I was disappointed in the end results of the 2015 NLDS, but the season itself was fun with both teams being 2 of the better ones in the NL.

I thought he was driving the ball more this year, but then I look at the numbers: .227/.315/.340. Players are human, and you just can't predict how their careers are going to go. This team has a number of problems, and it doesn't help when one of them is the guy you're paying to be a centerpiece player. I still remember when the contract was signed, and everyone thinking it would be for only three years because he was sure to opt out and hit the market again.

Baseball is truly a game of inches. He nearly made a home-run robbing, game saving catch last night. If he does, the narrative changes drastically. The way it stood, all of the attention went back to his misplay earlier in the game (one in which he owned up to afterwards). I can't speak for his overall play in the field since I haven't kept up with it.

Stephen Piscotty's mom passed away.

Fairly well known that she suffered from ALS and that the Cards traded Piscotty to Oakland, in part because of the need to move an outfielder, but also with the intent to move him closer to family.

Thanks for posting, I hadn't heard of her passing yet. My condolences to Stephen and his family. ALS is so devastating.

What a difference a day can make in the game of baseball.

The Cards, who seemed to get all kinds of key hits over the weekend, could do nothing tonight against the Twins.

The Cubs, whose offense has been dormant, exploded against the Marlins.

Normally I'd say because Marlins, but their starter had an 0.68 ERA coming in, and the Cubs had trouble with them at the start of the year. So I'll just say because baseball. The Cubs will probably get shut out again today.

I don't think Heyward is ever going to hit much. He's never really been the same hitter since getting hit in the face. He's an athletic giant that for some reason built his swing to hit groundballs to SS.

Royals got a TD,PAT and FG in the first inning against the Orioles.

In other news from Baltimore,Dan Duquette (Orioles GM) still has in finger in his ass.

The O's are horrible. Fire Duquette now and start making trades. They are on pace for 38 wins.

Hey Cardinals, way to crap the bed against weaker competition after a nice sweep of the Cubs.

^ Yep. You could easily make the case that only Pham and Molina had met or exceeded expectations so far. And with both of those guys out, others are going to have to step up. Hopefully.

Paxton and Bundy had literally exact opposite days. One guy got all 27 outs and the other got 0.

Bundy first pitcher in modern MLB History to give up 4 homers without getting an out.

Mets trade Matt Harvey to Reds for catcher Devin Mesoraco. The two teams are playing each other this week, btw.

I had no idea the current Met catchers were that bad. They both had OPS of under .600. Mesoraco, who isn't doing very well, is an actual improvement.

Oh, the White Sox are not a very good team at all. They play horrible defense as well. This is from watching them in today's loss vs the Pirates.

Yeah rebuild or not it's pretty awful. Giolito - man I hope he at least shows some progress soon. As far as defense, most of these guys don't figure to be around when (or should I say if) they figure to contend, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch. It's got to be demoralizing for the young guys to see their bullpen cough up game after game.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 6 May 7-13

Kind of a weird play to score the Cubs' winning run. Bryant broke for home on a ball that went straight to the drawn-in second baseman (Castro), but he kind of double-clutched and threw it high and to the first-base side, and Bryant slid in safely.

On the good side, the two guys he walked didn't put good wood on the ball.
