"The DBacks are the first MLB team since the 1907 Cubs to start the season with nine straight series wins."

Totally weird that the Cubs shut out the Brew Crew five times this month.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 5 Apr. 30-May 6

Acuna's swing reminds me so much of a young Mike Trout. He even has the same hole that Mike had early in his career - hard and high.

But watch out, Ozzie Albies may just win rookie of the year. He's looking like the second coming of Joe Morgan. He never had this much power in the minors, he was a pure speed guy. The Braves are going to regret giving Dansby Swanson a lockhold over SS. Albies is the far better athlete and defender. Dansby should be the 2nd baseman and Albies at SS.

If it is any consolation to the rest of the division, the Braves' pitching prospects are all overrated. I don't see any of them ever being more than decent #3's in a playoff rotation, maybe a #2 if everything breaks right.

If there were ever a time for the O's to ask the world from the Dodgers for Machado, this is it.

They could move Chris Taylor there, but he was a terrible SS with the Mariners.

Don't even suggest that.

Welp, my hopes for this already sluggish start to the season just crumbled even more.

Holy shit, that sucks! Would he be ready for next season? I know it's like 18 months for pitchers.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 5 Apr. 30-May 6

I honestly don't think the Dodgers would do the trade. I believe they have to be under the luxury tax threshold for whole season in order for it to reset. If it doesn't reset, they get absolutely hosed under the luxury tax rules. That's why I think Machado will be a FA signing, not a mid-season trade (unless he goes to someone like the White Sox or something). But, you never know, the Dodgers might be desperate. One can hope.

I can't find a ton of stuff about position players, but looks like Weiters missed exactly one year coming off TJ surgery: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/14/s...ent-angle.html

Well I'd be happy if Seger could come back next April. We will see.

I'm actually more worried about Kershaw. I think there might be something physically wrong with him. Wouldn't be surprised if they shut him down for a spell, especially if they fall much further out of contention.

Aside from losing around 1-2 MPH on his fastball, his stuff looks as good as ever. He went through a similar stretch at the start of the 2015(?) season, before going on a ridiculously dominant June and July.

He's in better shape than he was in last year. I think the pressure of this being a free agent walk year has gotten to him but I have no doubt he'll finish with another great season.

I have thought Kershaw's pitch mix may be affected by his back issues. He used to throw a much sharper slider with a tighter break to righthanded hitters. That was a devastating pitch almost no one could handle a couple of years ago. Ever since his trip to the DL last year, I haven't really seen it pulled out. He now throws a "bigger" slider and some form of a cutter as a replacement.

A catcher's balk was committed at Fenway Park tonight.

Red Sox catcher Vasquez reached behind him and fielded a baseball with his mask.

The Royals got to move runners up to second and third but Lucas Duda grounded out to end the 10th inning.

^ I feel like I've seen that called once before. You don't see it often since catchers come up knowing that's against the rules. I've never heard it called a balk.

You have to see the video of Ken Giles punching himself in the face after he gave up the game-winning homer to Gary Sanchez last night.

Verlander shuts out the Yankees for 8 innings and Giles blows it as soon as he comes in. Marrying Kate Upton must do something for a man, he hasn't looked this good on the mound since he won the MVP seven years ago.

Wade Miley pitched good his first game back.

He got the win vs. Cincinnati.
