Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread - April 26-28

So many mock drafts, I don't know which ones to post.

I've decided the worst one I could find was the one done by Maurice Jones-Drew, who somehow has the Browns not taking a QB at #1 or #4. Even the Browns aren't THAT incompetent (are they?).

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread - April 26-28

I was wondering when was the right time to start this so we can include trade talk, etc. Sometimes in the past I've included a poll about the first pick, but that's more interesting some years than others. I think last year was a clean sweep.

I think you can in the first 30 minutes if you're the OP. Check the thread tools pulldown.

I was scratching my head over that mock too. I thought "Well, he has them taking Barkley then whoever is left at QB," but then he mocks them Chubb at #4. He says they're in "win now" mode and won't take anyone who won't help them with that. I don't agree, but I can see that argument.

eh, it really depends on how high they are on Taylor. Still, if they're not taking a QB at 1 or 4, which I could see, they surely need to trade one of the picks.

After trading away the picks that became Carson Wenz and Deshawn Watson in the last two drafts, they can't pass on ALL these guys. NOBODY thinks Tyrod Taylor is the future of the franchise. Besides Dorsey was the guy who traded away his 2018 #1 for Pat Mahommes last year, wasn't he? I think he realizes if you don't have a franchise QB, you have nothing.

Meh. If you hadn't mentioned it, I probably would've noticed it eventually... or not.

Trying to find out from my well connected guy who the Cards are going after this year. Last year he nailed both the 1st and 2nd round picks, since both guys were available.

The mocks generally have the Seahawks taking OL, DE, or DB, which probably means that as long as there are a few options at any combination of those positions, they'll be trading down to get extra picks.

Smart draft from someone who figured out that any QB who ends up in Cleveland will bust.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread - April 26-28

I'm curious what you guys think : Pundits seem evenly split on the Giants at #2 taking a QB or Chubb/Barkley. I'm a little biased -- the Colts are better off if the Giants take a QB at 2. But in either case, I think you have to grab one of them if you like them -- Eli is getting old and losing his touch. You don't get a shot at a potential Franchise QB unless you are really awful or trade a King's ransom. I think if you have a QB need in the coming few years and you have a chance to grab a potential franchise QB, you HAVE to take it.

What do you guys think?

In that draft position and with an aging starter, you take the QB.

This.

Yesterday on NFLN, they were all saying Barkley should be the choice because he's a "difference maker". The only reason to do that is if you believe you can win now with Eli. And the Giants have way too many issues for one single RB to make a difference. So this line of reasoning makes no sense to me.

I'm with you guys, you have an aging QB and you have a shot at the #2 pick? You take the QB.

I don't see how Barkley is even there. If Browns take him #1, they get leftover of 2 of the 4 remaining QBs, possibly 3 of them, at pick #4. Seems dumb to take QB at #1 since most of the QBs are rated so similarly. It is not like there is a guy like Luck or Manning that is so far ahead of his peers.

I seriously doubt that they rank three QBs as essentially interchangeable (though I guess that's what the Jets must have done to trade up to 3 like that). My guess is that they'd be fine with either Barkley or Chubb and there's no way they won't get one of those two guys. Better to have the QB you think is best at 1 and then select either the one great pass-rusher this year or the best RB prospect in a decade at 4. Win-win.

I think the only reason not to take the QB is if they think that NONE of the guys left can be their franchise guy. That seems really unlikely.

Mara said something about only wanting a guy who would be in the Hall of Fame someday. Statitstically, that would more likely be Barkley or Chub rather than Allen, Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield. But just because you're not convinced your next QB will be a Hall of Famer to replace your aging future Hall of Fame QB, it doesn't mean you shouldn't grab him anyway. Poor QB play will put any franchise way behind the 8 ball. And next year's QB class is apparently wretched.

What's really amazing is that there are some morons who think the Browns may draft QBs at #1 AND #4. I'm not sure which of those scenarios is worse.

However, to be honest, if I came out of the draft with Chubb and Barkley I would probably prefer that to any of the QBs. I don't really think any of them will be standout pros.

I'm obviously in the minority here, but I don't think the Giants need to take a QB at #2.

In position to take best or 2nd best QB in draft. You don't have that opportunity often. I think you have to.
