I was certainly wrong about Ohtani. I thought he needed time in AAA. Way off on that one.

I don't think anyone is capable of being great on both sides of the ball. Too much work to make it through 30 starts while also having to put real effort into hitting and base running.

Ultimately, I think he'll be among the better pitchers in the league and will be an average bat at DH. But I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a pitcher full time.

More postponed games today:
Orioles at Red Sox
Cardinals at Cubs
Royals at Blue Jays(might be postponed because of hole in roof)

Re: 2018 MLB Week 3 Apr. 16-22

If you're a Reds fan, there's not much but bad news:
  • They're 9 games out of first after only 15 games played.
  • They're on pace to finish 24-140
  • They're bad at pitching, fielding, baserunning, coaching and hitting. They're mediocre at everything else.
  • All of the soft-serve machines in the entire city have been replaced by non-fat sugar-free frozen yogurt.

But there is some good news:
  • Their magic number is down to 157.
  • If they win out, they can still finish 149-13 which should be good enough for the playoffs.
  • Low demand for tickets so you can get in for cheap!

Thank You MLB for scheduling games in Detroit during late March.

Let's see if MLB pulls the same shit next year with the schedule.

I've heard, though, that it isn't as simple as avoiding cold-weather cities early in the season because teams don't want their home openers delayed till three weeks into the season. The Cubs had their first 10 games on the road this year, and I believe they were the longest to wait.

It's going to end up being a weird shell game, because the earlier start provided more off days during the season which provides more flexibility for rescheduling these weather-related cancellations.

They were the last team to have a Home opener.

Hoping we can find out someday why people were excited about signing Tyler Chatwood.

Chatwood was terrible yesterday, 1 H, 7BB and 7Ks.

With today's Postponed game MLB has had 25 postponed games since the start of the season, the record for the most by the end of April is 26. I wonder if they can get two more in 12 days to set the record.

The Angels have asked fans to quiet down during the special one's at-bats:

White Sox and A’s in the 11th inning of a game that neither starter made it through 2 innings.

The Reds fired Bryan Price

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2...ice-3-15-start

Just asked a friend last weekend while at a Reds game when this was going to finally happen. I felt like Price was in over his head as a manager from day 1. He seemed like a decent pitching coach prior to his managing years. I could see him getting back into the game at the MLB level that way.

I'm sure the next Reds manager will just tinker the roster and they'll be a .500+ team :eyeroll:

Re: 2018 MLB Week 3 Apr. 16-22

I hope Castellini and Williams don't cave to the popular notion of bringing Barry Larkin in to manage the Reds. Nothing against Larkin, but there's no hope for this team right now - no reason to taint a first-time manager with that stink.

Jim Riggleman is perfectly fine as interim. He's a career .445 manager (662-824) and though he's not managed in MLB since 2011, he's been in the Reds organization since 2012... Managing at the AA and AAA levels until being brought up in 2015 where he's been third base coach. He's familiar with the team and the prospects, but more importatly there's really not going to be a lot of pressure on him considering just how low expectations in the Queen City are right now.

If the Reds can avoid 100 losses I think most fans would be happy.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 3 Apr. 16-22

I always thought that the Orioles should have signed Jose Bautista and played him at third base while Tim Beckham played super utility guy.

Bautista is back in the minors getting back in shape for the Atlanta Braves.

Mike Napoli suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the Columbus Clippers(Indians AAA team).

Sure, fire him now after he was my answer in the Reverse Sheep game two or three years ago!

He was a well-regarded coach with the Mariners but never watched him enough to evaluate him as a manager. Doesn't seem like he really had the talent to contend either.

He'll land on his feet as a pitching coach again. He was pretty successful doing that and has a lot of friends in the game (Bob Melvin with A's would come to mind immediately).

Evan Gattis grounds into a triple play. Only because he forgot how many outs there were and didn't run to first.

<iframe src="https://streamable.com/m/1953512483" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Edit: Even better, he ran to first and then ran off the field and was tagged out.

Good win by the Cubs yesterday. Considering how little the team has played over the past week they should be well rested for the road trip.

Yeah, the Gattis play was even funnier with the edit.

Nice to see the Cubs stringing together hits to score, to the opposite field even!

Glad there are no Red Sox fans on this board to rub 16-2 in our faces.
