Great start to your Cardinal career, Mr. Holland.

Matheny continues to be a fucking idiot.

It took 4 walks for Matheny to figure out Holland didn't have it. And we have that guy 14 or 15 millions for one year?!?!

Dbacks stay hot and win again. Tied the record for best 10 game opening to season ever.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 2 Apr. 9-15

I was reading over at Orioles Hangout(not exactly a fountain of information) that MLB attendance has been down three years in a row.

It doesn't help matters that the same teams play each other over and over again(mentioned in last week's MLB thread) plus the crappy weather. MLB teams are losing millions of dollars because of the early start with a lot of mostly empty stadiums in the Midwest and the East.

I bet they won't start another season on March 29th. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first learned of the early start.

No cold-weather team that plays outdoors should have a home game before April 15th.

Evan Longoria is garbage. He looks lost at the plate. Like he forgot how to hit a baseball.

But at least Andrew McCutchen is great!

EDIT - 15 minutes later and McCutchen with another walk-off. Excellent

If you think Longoria is garbage, you should see Chris Davis. Now that is hot garbage and the O's are stuck with that albatross of the contract. He should be batting no higher than 7th, if not 8th if they have to trot him out there.

Totally wasted two great starts in a row by Bundy and Cashner. Team can't score and the bullpen is a mess.

Too add to the Orioles woes is Mark Trumbo who will soon be back on the 25 man roster.

I never heard of a team that doesn't have a back up second baseman or shortstop but they are never short of useless one inning reliefers(looks like Givens and O'Day can be included in that group).

So Molina gets a 1-game suspension from the incident with Arizona last week. Not completely surprised since he obviously made contact with an ump, but it's interesting since the umpire in question didn't eject Molina and deemed the contact as incidental.

Molina appeals, plays last night, and was initially scheduled for an off day today, so he drops the appeal and sits.

I have to agree on Chris Davis. It looks like he's very content putting up mediocre numbers since he got a huge contract that overpays him.

It's a contract like the Chris Davis one that seemed terrible from the moment it got signed, for why teams are unwilling to spend money in free agency anymore.

Yeah, the whole thing is a little funky. On the one hand, there seems to be an obvious contradiction between the umpire saying he considered the contact incidental, but the league office still considering the contact worthy of a suspension. On the other hand, I think Molina ought to at least receive some kind of punishment from the league. In the interest of sportsmanship and general safety, a player should refrain from being so physically aggressive toward someone from the opposition no matter what that member of the opposition might be saying. All things considered, being allowed to remain in the game but subsequently receiving a one game suspension seems relatively fair to me.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 2 Apr. 9-15

I'm shocked that the Pirates are doing this well considering that their starting pitching (sans Taillon) is pretty much a bunch of 3rd-5th starters. And parts of the bullpen have had issues.

But they look to be a far more interesting club on offense this year. They seem to be drawing walks, taking more pitches and the lineup has greater depth than last year.

He looked better at the plate against Toronto last night. He got two hits and flew out to deep center field.

Love it. Always fun to see the gloves come off in divisional games. With it being so early in the year, you know it's not over.

Agreed on this assessment ... it’s a little wonky the suspension was for contact with the umpire as the umpire put himself between them to break it up — which was the right thing to do — and Molina’s intent had nothing to do with the umpire. It may have been a better statement from MLB to say it was simply for sportsmanship, particularly since you had two more brawls yesterday.

Unlike Deftones and Goat, I don’t like to see this behavior in baseball, particularly this early in the season. I may be more forgiving late in the season as it grinds on players and post-season implications come into play, but MLB needs to nip this in the bud this early. I expect this to become a major issue fro MLB’s front office this year considering how much of it has gone on already.

It's even worse with the knowledge that the Orioles were really the only team interested. Dude was one season removed from a sub-.200 average and they saw fit to offer a lot of money and then increase said offer to finally sign him. That's money that have gone towards extending Machado.

Yep. My jaw dropped when I first saw that contract and immediately said that they were likely bidding against themselves. Just so stupid. Another gem by F-Uquette.

Re: 2018 MLB Week 2 Apr. 9-15

And as long as we’re talking about Orioles and Trumbo, how about his 3/37.5 contract for putting up 47 HR, .849 OPS, and 1.6 WAR after 2016?

A year later, LoMo goes 38 HR, .869 OPS, and 3.6 WAR and gets 1/6.5. Granted this was a tough FA year, but corner power guys have been losing value for a few years now.

Trumbo - another gem by F-Uquette. He loves the corner power guys and the O's have a logjam of them - Davis, Trumbo, Alvarez, Mancini.

Chris Tillman has made 21 consecutive starts for the Orioles without getting a win and that's a team record.

However, since he is signed to a guaranteed three million dollar contract, the Orioles don't give a flying fuck on how bad he pitches.

Gem of a first start for Alex Cobb.

FS1 is picking up the Ohtani start tomorrow at 2:15p. Would rather watch him than these sorry O's.
