Jordan Zimmerman and James Shields are opening day starters-WOW !!!- starting pitching has fallen too an all-time low.

I was thinking the same thing about J.A. Happ, though I know he's done well in Toronto.

It supposed to be a rebuild year for the Royals, but enough of the World Series team is still around that hopefully it will be close to .500 year for the team.

Just seen over at ESPN.com that Rusty Staub has passed away.

Only player in MLB history to have 500 hits on 4 different teams.

Cards reportedly close to a deal with Greg Holland. That's been my hope all along, that they might get him cheap on a 1 or 2 year deal by holding out. I think the bullpen for St. Lours was already solid. If Holland is added, it could be huge.

Edit: just read speculation that it's a 1 year (good) $14m (I was hoping for less than 10) deal.

Holland turned down a $15M option to stay with the Rockies.

Bummer about Staub, I am no Mets fan by any stretch, but I always liked him

Then .. score 2 more runs without a hit, 3 HBP and 2 walks.

I was pretty concerned that they were going to end the inning with only the one run. Thank goodness for the Heyward walk and the beanballs!

Huge cheer for Rizzo's homer. I assumed it was because no Marlins fans were there, but then remembered the Parkland connection.

1 down, 161 to go

Schwarber looked pretty bad in LF and Lester did not have a ton of command, but the pen and the bats really stepped up

Lester wasn't very good today but the offense picked him up.

I suspect that Happ is going to see a lot more first pitch breaking balls in the future.

White Sox were down 4-0 after one and have scored two TDs since then.

Wow, Stanton putting on a bomb show today. Donaldson looks hurt when he throws from 3rd. He can't play the whole season that way.

Yeah, Schwarber had the tough play on the one fading right at him, but the grounder... I dunno, I guess it took a funny hop, but he just missed it. I hope his offseason work will pay off, and at least he had the homer.

Not sure if it's too early to be concerned about Lester. He's not young, and he seemed to have more than his share of mediocre games over the last year. I hope the rest of the rotation will be solid and pick him up.

Dbacks had 7(!) chances to use bullpen cart and didn't. What a fucking scam
