Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

Andrew Luck's dad is going to run the league. The XFL has apparently hired many former staffers from the NFL league office.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

The AAD had the NFL Network, TNT, and CBS Sports Network and they failed so I don't see how the XFL will do any better plus they have the history of being a massive failure and why would people want to give them another chance?

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

I can't believe they still think this is going to work.

You figure the AAF and all past league failures (including XFL 1.0) would've given them a HUGE hint about it's viability.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

The WWE is not doing that well and marketing the XFL on the wrestling shows will not give you the big buzz they had in 2001 when the WWE was king.

One idea is they can sign guys coming out of high school that don't care about college but want to get paid.

ESPN, ABC, FOX Sports and FS1 will be broadcasting games. It's a 10 week season.

Also read that Landry Jones was the 1st player signed to the league.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

I think the logo and name are fine for all except Seattle - both name and logo are horrible.

So LA, NY, Seattle and TB are playing in NFL stadiums according to Wikipedia.
Dallas will be playing in the Rangers baseball stadium? Ugh.

Doesn't matter - this thing won't make it to a second season. Big waste of money.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

I just realized why all those networks are signing up to broadcast the XFL - they want leverage with the NFL in the next round of contract negotiations. Which is going to be a war on both sides as the cable business dies. The NFL is the highest rated show on all those networks.

Wow who came up with those original names? They sound like Arena football teams.

The Battlehawks and the Defenders

I think this will fizzle out quickly if that is the best they can come up with.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

They should have gone with St. Louis Hawks(old NBA team).

Even St. Louis Bombers(old old old NBA team) would have been good especially for a football team name.

That Seattle logo looks like clip art.

LA got the worst name and colors out of the entire league. Wildcats sounds like a high school team and orange and red to not go together at all.

Wildcats is a better name than Defenders or Guardians(sounds like Insurance Companies not sports teams).

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

Even though the AAF was a colossal mess it did select the correct cities for Spring football.

The XFL decided too go with bigger cities and have more competition for the entertainment dollar.

They should get Goldie Hawn to coach.

Yes it will be.

McMahon had the benefit of learning from XFL 1.0 and the AAFL just a few months back, and yet still plans to move forward with XFL 2.0.
He probably thinks he learned how NOT to run a league, but what he really should have learned was that there's no market for another football league. People only care about the NFL and NCAA - everything else is a waste of time.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

If they really wanted to succeed the St Louis team would be called the Brewski's and Johnny Football would be the starting QB,and they would fix the results so Tebow,Capernick and Johnny Football's teams all make the playoffs.

Re: Report: The XFL may be returning

Part of me, (ok, all of me) is hoping that the Andrew Luck retirement is a publicity stunt so that he could join his dad in the XFL next season. If that's how it plays out, the fallout from that would be hilarious.
