Well done!

Nearly anything would be a classic in terms of historic franchises (except the Astros), though there is really only one choice for a classic WS. Dodgers-Yankees would bring back memories of the first couple WS I watched.

And it really is a big-market round. I rarely have to type so many team designations after the city names in the schedule.

The 4 largest cities in the country are in the Championship Series...and the 4th and 3rd will make it to the WS

Go Dodgers! Haven't been to a game in years, but got tickets for tomorrow's game.

Looking forward to it, at least the first 6 innings.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Championship Series Edition

The 1977 Yankees/Dodgers World Series was the first World Series I ever watched as I remember Reggie Jackson's 3 Homerun Game.

I think MLB would be happy with Cubs vs Yankees or Dodgers vs Yankees, as they would least prefer the Astros to make it for TV ratings.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Championship Series Edition

I'd love another Dodgers/Yankees Series. I was vaguely aware of the games in '77 & '78 but my folks don't watch sports and I didn't either. I was actually watching the 1980 Series though. Would love to see them play another Fall Classic -- especially if the Dodgers win.

Have fun Stan! They better win Game 1 after the bloodbath that the Cubs' bullpen just survived last night.

Game 6 of the 1980 World Series is still the highest rated game since they started taking TV ratings at 54 million. That always suprises me because it was my Phillies vs Royals, as you think the Yankees or RedSox would somehow be involved in the highest rated World Series game.

Hard to imagine the Dodgers not walking through this round, whether it was the Cubs or Nationals. The winner's pitching staff was guaranteed to be in shambles.

Meanwhile, this is still in play, from 2014:

To quote a noted Cubs fan, who three weeks ago responded to my Dodgers frustration :

Hey, it's worth a shot!

But anything this year is like a bonus, and way less stressful than last year.

Very much so ... the "Cubs are playing on house money" saying is certainly true for me. Obviously I want them to win it all .. but playing this far into October 3 years in a row with a ring already in is beyond anything I thought I would ever see.

it would be disappointing if they did not win another with this core for sure, but it does not need to be this year .. last year with the season they had was the year they had to do it.

Television ratings peaked in the late 1970s/early 1980s for most content before the widespread advent of cable. It wasn't until the late 1980s that baseball's national viewership started becoming far more regional in nature. Many blame it on Fox becoming the fourth national broadcast network and fracturing more of the viewership.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Championship Series Edition

Looks like Quintana is starting for the Cubs tonight. They need to figure out something to do with Lackey .. either actually pitch him in relief or replace him on the roster. I would not be surprised though to see Q start. not go all that long if he gets in any kind of trouble and flip the platoons with Lackey

Seager is not on the Dodger roster for the series. He has a back injury.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Championship Series Edition

That helps, or hurts depending on your point of view

Dodgers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager has been left off the team's NLCS roster with a back injury.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Friday that Seager was questionable for Game 1 with what he described as a muscular injury in Seager's back, but he did not suggest that Seager might not be able to play in the series altogether.

It's a major blow to the Dodgers, as Seager, 23, hit .295/.375/.479 with 22 home runs and 33 doubles this season and plays strong defense. He played in all three games of Los Angeles' sweep of the Diamondbacks and went 3 for 11 with a triple and 2 RBIs in the series.

Candidates to replace Seager at shortstop include Logan Forsythe, Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez. The Dodgers added Charlie Culberson to the roster to fill the spot opened by Seager's absence.

Game 1 between the Dodgers and Cubs is at Dodger Stadium on Saturday at 8:08 p.m. ET.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Championship Series Edition

Agree about Quintana. At least he had a glorified throw day on Thursday.

Taylor was a mediocre SS in Seattle. Would be surprised if the Dodgers went with him.

Wilson has been such a flop. He was supposed to be a key piece, and now he's useless.
