Cubs get back 2. Bullpens and management decide.

Cool... Zimmerman gets a chance to leave his 4th and 5th runners on base after this AB, and it's only the 4th inning.

Oh my. Scherzer doesn't have a good history in playoff relief IIRC.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Division Series Edition

God, they need to start these games at 7. This is absurd. Nearly 4 hours to play 7 innings. Killing us on the east coast.

The poor Nats fans in attendance. Some company bought out Metro to extend the last train cut-off an hour. That won't work tonight.

As long as it's killing both bullpens as well, I'm happy.

As a fan at the game, I think I would be pissed at these guys running around with the signs ,.. and in general it looks stupid.

Yes! That was close.

I don't see the Cubs doing well against the Dodgers but who knows? Maybe they will start to play better and be competitive.

Three years in a row in the NLCS.

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Division Series Edition

Another classic loss for a DC pro team in a quarterfinal. Now 69 "seasons" for DC teams failing to advance to a league/conference semi. Unfathomable. Loser-town.

Not a good year for the LDS home teams all 4 clinchers were won by the visitors

Re: 2017 MLB Playoffs, Division Series Edition

A 9-8 winner take all game should inspire thoughts of a classic.

This one sure leaves a strange taste in the mouth of those who watched it and even those who played in it. The Cubs are rightfully amazed that they came out ahead, considering how bad they looked. And instead of folks celebrating the great game of baseball, conversations are all about rule interpretations, pace of game and the intent of replay. A strange night that will stir lots of discussion, though none of it about the "terrific game" that took place.

I always thought HomeField advantage is Baseball was overrated, because it's just not the type of sport that players can feed off the crowd. Football Home Field is a huge advantage because the Offense can't audible when the crowd is noisy. Hockey players benefit from the crowd because it's such a physical game, and the NBA is all about runs/momentum and being right up next to crowd fuels home teams all the time.

Baseball is a just a slow paced sport that the Pitcher really controls the outcome of the game. That is why the old days Best of 5 series was 2-3 instead of 2-2-1 cause Homefield just didn't matter.

What a weird game last night. Both teams tried their best to give the game away.

I would argue that there is no effect on the team with a wildly cheering crowd. But even if there isn't, the mere fact that if a game is tied after 8, a run scored by the home team ends the game while a run scored by the visitors does not must confer some statistical advantage to the home team, right?

I wish folks could understand the nonsense I put up with from my friends who cheer on the Cubs.

Got a tweet last night, a text message this morning and just now read this FB post from a "loyal" fan: Cubs win, up 3-2, one more game!

I was out and didn't watch the game, but the highlights were certainly weird. I guess some sloppiness is expected at this point of the season.

I think the last at-bat does give an advantage. There was probably more of an advantage in the old days of quirky ballparks, or there still can be if you tailor your team to a place like Fenway or Yankee Stadium.

I can only imagine the amount of crap they put up from you over the years.

Like Pavlov's dog you probably still blurt out "1908" when you see them.

Not sure if Cardsfan would do that. On this board at least, he's always been pretty civil. Never thought I'd say that about a Cardinals fan.

That's the thing, I've never dished it out. But I've sure taken it.

I even bit my tongue on the FB post. I wanted to post, "the series is over, moron!" but I let it go.
