It makes sense because neither team wants to play 16 weeks in a row. Otherwise, I don't give a shit.

of course they don't want to play 16 weeks in a row. neither team wants a hurricane to rip through Florida either.

16 weeks in a row?! How barbaric. What is this, 1990?

Re: 2017 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 01

Taking my parents to the Green Bay game, leave Friday! First time going...pretty pumped!! Got the Lambeau tour scheduled for Sat AM and everything. We have Sat afternoon open if anyone has some suggestions for places to check out around town. Also any game day tips, I did find a Hawks meetup nearby.

Grab a meal Saturday at Krolls on S Ridge Road (SW side of Lambeau Field). Your parents especially will probably like it as it is kind of a throwback restaurant. Get the butter burger unless you don't like burgers.

By going early you can easily street park in the neighborhoods on the NE side of Lombardi Avenue for free and within a couple blocks of the stadium. With it being a late game and looking like the weather should be amazing, the pre-game atmosphere should be terrific. Think of a 20,000 person block party. So go early enough to spend some time taking it in and grab some brats from the stands around the outside of the stadium parking lots. Or do what we sometimes do...wander the tailgate paries making friends and mooching.

Then head inside to enjoy the game in the holiest of holies of football. And don't worry about being visiting fans. Packer fans will sometimes have a little too much fun, but rarely at the expense of the visiting fans...even those accursed Bears fans that occasionally wander north.

Win or lose, you will enjoy yourself and create some great memories. And since it's week one, I don't have to talk about things like bringing cardboard to put under your feet to keep the feeling in your toes.

Re: 2017 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 01

Thanks for the tips.... I'm doing the Lambeau-Bengals game ofmyself in week 3 and seem to be on the same schedule. Friday departure, Saturday tour, Sunday game.

The Stripes only make it up there once every 8 years, and as a Packer shareholder it's definitely a "gotta do".

You wouldn't want to go to work and take your lunch break right when you got in would you?

no, I wouldn't. I also wouldn't want a hurricane to rip through my office either.

Actually it's more like 1999-2001 when after the Browns were 'returned" via expansion draft and before the Texans expansion, there were 31 NFL teams - an odd number. By necessity, since every team can only play once a week and you need to have an opponent, at least one team had to have a bye week every single week including Week 1 and Week 17. The worst teams from the previous season were given those shitty byes.

Despite being to countless Hawks games in the past, one thing I have never done is attend a road game. Not sure what would be my first choice, but GB would be high on this list. Jealous. Enjoy!

I got to go to a couple games when my best friend worked for the Packers. It is a pretty magical place.

Re: 2017 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 01

As somewhat unfair as it seems, playing the game during the previously scheduled bye week is the only realistic choice assuming there isn't some kind of stadium conflict. Giving a draft pick for it seems to be a bit much IMO. This kind of thing (having to reschedule a game) can happen to any team at any time. If the timing was a bit different, and the opening game was here, they may have considered cancelling the Seahawks game due to air quality. The forest fires in the area have turned much of the state into a weird all day fog like haze. But it's ash not fog. At one point earlier in the week bigger pieces were falling like snow.

Browns just cut S Calvin Pryor after a fight with team mates. Jeez. That team takes a step forward then two steps back it seems.

Calvin Pryor was never a "step forward". Jets were ecstatic to get anything for him in trade.

You misunderstand. I mean the franchise seems to be moving forward in terms of the right direction (good 1st round draft picks), and then this happens and Garrett gets hurt.

Re: 2017 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 01

Chiefs have no chance tonight.

It must a weak Sun schedule on CBS if Raiders @ Titans is the #1 game on CBS with Nantz and the debut of Romo.

Yeah Titans are probably improved and this might be a battle of two playoff contenders but the Titans are not a sexy team.
Maybe the OP should change the thread to 2017 NFL Regular Season so you don't have to create separate threads every week and we don't have to wait to post NFL news or comments.

Yup, Zero.
But that's the price of winning your Division - You have to play the Pats the next year. At least this is a loss that you can explain away and move on from quickly. Having a few extra days before Game 2 also helps.

I turned on the pregame show because I had company, and what do we get? An hour of talking about "the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history."

Meh, reverse jinx aside. They would have had to play the Pats anyhow. AFCE/AFCW this year. All the KC division rivals have to play the Pats, so good for the Chefs. Placement (only determines 2 games) matters much less than it did 20-30 years ago.

But I think it's great for KC to get this game out of the way in Week 1.

Gillislee TD called back for holding.

Then he gets in anyway.

That was relatively easy. Goal line back confirmation.

Looks like this could be a long season for those of us who don't like the Patriots.
