Lester is back and on the mound today. Looks like Montgomery is staying in the rotation and they are going with 6 starters down the stretch.
I guess Martin has stolen 33 bases this year, so that's the kind of skill the expanded rosters are good for.

But I like the 2 WCs, better than just one, because there is now a real premium for winning the division. And I hate the Yankees.
I took your point as people should be glad that mediocre teams are battling for the WC and might keep out the Yankees, even if that might not be what you actually said.

What an ugly win today but I'll take it, six in a row.

^ The Cards specialty is ugly losses, including another one this afternoon. Lynn throws a 1-hit shutout thru 8. Bullpen comes in, gives up a run on a seeing eye single (that should have been fielded) and a bloop. Offense can't score a run after a leadoff triple. Then give up a walk-off HR. I'm glad I haven't kept track of the number of games given away this season. They'd be in first if they won half of them probably.

It is around 20. This team needs an overhaul. Need 2-3 new starters and trade away at least two everyday players. They also need to get rid of Matheny.

I hated when they went to 1 WC, but 2 actually makes some sense. But it's still fools gold for many teams. But that's what they want.

Those are the worst losses. You get a great pitching performance and it is wasted.

Yep, they are. I hope Matheny gets fired for taking a guy out that is still pitching well and ends up losing the game because of it. He has made many boneheaded decisions and never seems to learn from them.

9 in a row for the Dbacks!

They've also led for the last 52 innings, which is the 3rd longest streak since 1920, and longest since 1983.

That's a crazy streak. So it's going to be a moral victory for an opponent if they can just lead for an inning.

14 runs on Saturday, 1 run on Sunday.

The Cubs have done that several times this year, score lots of run one game only to be followed by few runs that next.

All in all it was a good home stand.

True, though I think that's also a baseball thing.

I'm concerned about Baez leaving the game after hitting his head. Damn head-first slides! They have journeyman utility IF Mike Freeman, but he's not a solution for multiple games. But I'm guessing Baez won't be out long.

Baez is current being checked out at Northwestern but he is not on the 7 day concussion protocol. He'll spent the night in Chicago and is expected to join the team Monday in Pittsburgh.

Dbacks are sitting half their starters today and they are still winning 5-1.

I didn't see that. All I could think of is when they put the Lakers Nash and Howard on the cover and said "this is gonna be fun."

How'd that turn out again? Fun for the rest of the league

So tired of hearing about pitch velocity and "exit velocity" on the swing. It doesn't matter. It's just something for the TV stations to throw up on the screen. The results matter. Sad thing is kids are watching this and think it matters. Hopefully coaches don't think it matters.
