Re: 2017 MLB Week 15 July 10-16 "All-Star Edition"

Unless I watch some minor league games,I am giving MLB the next 4 days off.

I have zero interest in the homerun derby and MLB all-star game.

Might watch Triple A all-star game,however.

I think the home run derby is a little overhyped these days but I am interested in seeing Stanton face off with Judge.

It's disappointing that Harper refuses to play in it.

I really do like the HR Derby more after changing to the Putch clock, the "outs" model always bugged me since foul balls were considered outs.

That Sanchez/Stanton match up was SO entertaining -- 33 HR between them.

Bour and Judge both put on a show there.

Judge hit 3 balls over 500 so far, including a 513 footer. When even the other All Stars are going nuts, that shows you what a freak that man is.

He applies tremendous backspin to the ball. They really need to give each player more time between rounds. That final round was less than thrilling because both players looked winded.

For being an ex-MLB player, Cody Bellinger's father didn't throw a very good round of BP. His pitches were all over the place and not in Cody's sweet spot.

Cardinals can't carry the NL by themselves.

And of course Maddon puts in the Cub to blow the game. Predictable.

That's pretty much how the season has gone: Even the reigning MVP can't make the AS squad, and the token representative takes the loss.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 15 July 10-16 "All-Star Edition"

I grew up watching the All-Star Game every year as a kid, but I think that maybe the last one I ever watch. Good God that was a yawner last night, as I checked out by the 6th inning. When I saw Pat Neshek in the 2nd inning pitching, I rolled my eyes (the only reason he made the All-Star team is because my Phillies have no worthy candidates this year). I have to say that even though it was always a dopey idea that the ASG determines Home Field Advantage for the WS, I used to atleast watch til the end for that reason alone. Maybe that idiot Bud Selig was on to something!

Re: 2017 MLB Week 15 July 10-16 "All-Star Edition"

MLB takes the entire All-Star game far too casually. Some of the problem lies in letting active managers actually make decisions. They always have their own agenda, they aren't going to do anything that may hurt the feelings of a player they will face over the season. Neshek should not have been pitching in the second inning.

Using home field in the World Series was stupid but the game should have some kind of stakes. This is going to quickly devolve back into a farce.

I really haven't liked Manfred so far as commissioner or any of his ideas. He's clearly trying to make his mark on the game by jettisoning tradition and "modernizing" the game for television. I expect him to change more things in baseball over the next five years than what we've seen in the last fifty years. You get the feeling he's taking way too much input from ESPN, a channel that doesn't even like baseball.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 15 July 10-16 "All-Star Edition"

The Chicago Cubs have acquired left-hander Jose Quintana from the Chicago White Sox for a haul of young talent, including their top prospect, Eloy Jimenez.

The White Sox also get right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, first baseman Matt Rose and infielder Bryant Flete.

Jimenez, an outfielder, is the No. 5 prospect in baseball, according to Baseball America.

Holy shit, they traded Jimenez and Cease? I understand they needed a cost-controlled starter but didn't expect that they'd give up that much. Granted Cease is a high-ceiling guy who also carries a lot of risk.

Seems like a pretty good trade for the Sox. Time will tell of course. Quintana might actually get some regular run support!

Not the way the Cubs are hitting this year.

But yeah, Jimenez and Cease were the top hitting and pitching prospects in the organization, with very high ceilings. I wish them the best.

The Sox GM is my hero... God I wish Avila would do something, anything to dismantle the shadow of a team that is the Tigers and give us hope for the future.

JD Martinez is constantly talked about as a top hitting target so maybe you'll get some relief there. And as cool as it'd be to have Verlander end his career with the Tigers, I'd give up a solid prospect for him, and I'm guessing his value will not get any higher than it is now.

The White Sox just robbed the Cubs blind. Quintana is really a #3 starter on a playoff team. His best asset is that he never gets hurt.

The 2020 White Sox are going to be a juggernaut.

Quintana has the 7th best WAR amongst all pitchers in baseball over the last 3 years.

Jimenez is the power bat the Sox system has been missing.

Quintana's relatively cheap contract was also a big factor. He has many years of control left. He's no Sale, but the Cubs didn't give up as much as the Sox did for Sale either.

Watch Madden start him third or fourth in the rotation if the Cubs make it to the playoffs. Quintana commanded a high trade price because he has an affordable contract with years of control.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 15 July 10-16 "All-Star Edition"

It was a good trade for both teams .. the Cubs have Lackey for sure and Jake most likely gone after this year, now they will not need to fill both spots in Free Agency and Jiminez is somewhat blocked ... the Sox get young players with upside
