Dodgers place Alex Wood on the 10 day DL for shoulder joint inflammation. He is 6-0 with a 1.69 ERA. Hopefully only miss a start or two

Dodgers injuries seem worse then last year that even pitchers coming off good starts end up on the DL or a little dinged up.

Most people think the Dodgers are gaming the 10-day DL to rotate all of their pitchers besides Kershaw.

Fun fight between the Nationals and Giants.

I'd never even heard of Hunter Strickland before today, but I'm now sure he's a complete lunatic.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 9 May 29-June 4 Memorial Day Edition

Trout out 6-8 weeks. Ugh.

He was off to a great start. There goes his MVP chances. I guess it could be worse, like his leg or wrist or something. But I'm convinced the Angels are cursed.

Morales breaks his leg jumping on home plate after a game winning homer.
Adenheart is killed by a drunk driver after the best game of his young career.
Baylor breaks his fibula catching a ceremonial pitch from Vlad.
Richards, and Heaney most likely headed for TJ surgery.
Skaggs sucks after TJ surgery.
Pujols foot and hammy can't stay healthy.
They haven't had a good 3B since Glaus.
They haven't had a good LF in forever.
They haven't had a good catcher since God knows when.
They lost out on Posey after he went back to school.
They lost out on Harvey after he went back to school.
PA announcer David Courtney suddenly died in 2013.
The Rally Monkey is still around.

I think the stadium was built on an Indian burial ground.

They also won a World Series a mere 15 years ago and have the best position player since at least Bonds, maybe since Mantle - - just entering his prime.
I'm fairly sure that some franchise in professional team sports has it worse.

And don't forget, 24 teams needed to pass up on Trout in order for the Angels to draft him. That's a whole lot of good luck.

It's not lucks fault that they horribly overpaid for Pujols and Hamilton and refuse to move on from Mike Scioscia.

sure seems like Strickland's teammates are tired of his shit. Posey barely moved when Harper charged, nor did the shortstop.

Strickland's a headcase, apparently he was retaliating for Harper homering off him twice in the NLDS...3 years ago.

Even the Angels passed on Mike Trout. They had two picks in that first round and took Randal Grichuk with an earlier pick.

Basically no one thought a kid from New Jersey could be the next Mickey Mantle. There is a huge bias against kids from the Northeast since they usually don't play the high-level travel ball kids in Cali and Florida play all year.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 9 May 29-June 4 Memorial Day Edition

I'm not sure how "cursed" the Angels are anyway given that it's yet another .500 or below year for them. Maybe if they were in contention and Trout's injury drops them out of it that would be one thing, but even then you're talking about a guy that's never even been on the DL before.

Cursed would account for far more spectacular failures for that team then just an injury here or there, far more then just "guy got hurt" or "don't have anyone good in a particular position."

Injuries aren't a curse. Donnie Moore and Lyman Bostock are a curse.

Can someone explain to me why Jonathan Broxton is still on the Cardinals roster, let alone actually getting into games?

I can understand getting dumped by the Dodgers, but it's just embarrassing to get pounded by the Padres.

And Wilson. And Matthews Jr. And Wells. And a ton of others.

But yeah. I'm kinda butthurt. Trout is wasting away his career.

And Buster Posey didn't even come to his defense, as he let Harper just go after him (which shows that nobody knew he was throwing at Harper nor did anyone agree with it when it happened). I have no problem with a guy retaliating within the same series, or even something that happened earlier in the season. But 3 years? Gimme a break!

Re: 2017 MLB Week 9 May 29-June 4 Memorial Day Edition

I don't think there is much hope for the Orioles if they keep Gausman and Miley in the starting rotation. The season is two months old and they have a combined three wins.

Hey MASN(Orioles tv network)-I don't give a flying fuck about quality starts. That's a stat for losing pitchers that makes them look better than they really are. Almost as meaningless a stat as a save.

Huh, I thought Miley was having a relatively good season but I haven't kept close track. I know he was pretty terrible with the Mariners last year.

It's almost a given that he will have 100 pitches by the fifth inning.

They had a graphic on the Orioles telecast last night stating that he has the lowest pct. of pitches of any MLB pitcher that are in the strike zone 38 percent.

Just read at MASN.com that Castillo might be going back on the DL. When I first started watching him play for Baltimore he looked like a player who plays with reckless abandon so DL stints will be a probability(or something).

Not anymore. Cut today.

Dbacks keep winning, which is surprising as shit. Been years since I have been paying attention to them on a daily basis.

It's about time. Broxton was struggling mightily, but Matheny continued to trot him out there in situations that mattered rather than only low-risk mop-up duty in which he might have had a chance to get things right. Mo had no choice but to force the issue and cut him. I'm not a Matheny-basher in general, but he does have a significant flaw as a manager in sticking way too long with "his guys".
