It's terrible news about Bumgarner, easily one of the most fun players to watch in the game. He had never been on the DL in his entire career before this accident.

I'm sure there is some bandwagoning going on, but eh, it's better than being lovable losers.

Of course there is some bandwagoning going on but the reality is the Cubs do have a large fan base, probably one of the largest in the game.

Of course, and everyone knows it. I assume the Reds publicity staff is just goofing around, and they did have some good gags.

Re: 2017 MLB Week 3 Apr. 17-23

So the season is over for the Giants haha

For the 8th year in a row, I'm still amazed how Hensley Meulens (hitting coach) still has a job.

I'm still proud of what they did when they were at their peak, so it's time to rebuild.

I remember when the Rays were at their peak and couldn't capture a title, so I have to be grateful for what the Giants have done.

I think the bit was legitimately funny. And kudos for the Reds for doing so, even at their own expense, since it's the lack of their own fans showing up that leave so much of the crowd wearing Chicago blue. And while it was a joke, the fact that it contains a great deal of truth makes it all the more entertaining.

There are always bandwagon fans.

And someone pointed out that it was Reds publicity last year that used a headline like "Reds Draw Four Walks in Cubs Game" when they lost like 15-2. When you work for the Reds, you need to get a little creative to have fun, and sports are supposed to be fun.

I call 'em like I see 'em, and it doesn't matter the team. You've never heard me spout off about St. Louis having the "best fans in baseball" even though the media might affix that label to them. They have good fans and knuckleheaded fans, same as anywhere else.

It's the simple truth--I have seen more Cubs clothes, bumper stickers, Facebook posts, etc., in the last year than I have in the previous 10 years combined. Yes, Chicago has always had loyal followers all over the country. But there are obviously a ton of fans who weren't supporting the team vocally or in attendance until the last year or so. And I believe many others who have jumped on the bandwagon. Fairweather fans, bandwagon fans, whatever. It's not an insult to have them. As you and others have pointed out, they come with success. But what I've witnessed in the last year far surpasses anything I've seen before.

And obviously someone in the Cincinnati PR department has made the same observation.

You break a 108-year drought, and yes, it'll probably far surpass anything you've seen before.

I've been a Cubs fan since age 11, but I rarely talked about them with friends or posted about them on social media because honestly there hasn't been a lot to talk about, and I don't know that many other fans. I talk about them here more than everywhere else combined.

Same here. Went to my first game at Wrigley in 1974 at the age of 5. Hooked ever since. That said, I am probably paying Carl Edwards' salary this year with all the World Championship Cubs stuff I bought.

At least you're not paying Jon Lester's.

I bought some championship gear too, though I had some already.
