Re: 2017 PGA Tour/Golf (non-majors) thread

Not sure if there is an LPGA thread, but did anyone see what happened yesterday on their tour? It was the first Major of the year in California, and Lexi Thompson had a 4 stroke lead on the back nine. Someone called in on Sunday and said she marked her ball wrong on Saturday, so the rules officials caught her on 12 and told her she was to being penalized 2 strokes for the infraction and 2 strokes for signing a wrong scorecard Saturday. She thought she was getting Punk'd as she said right on TV, "Is this a joke???" She ended up finishing tied after 18 and lost on the first Sudden Death Hole.

This shit needs to stop as the game is starting to become a joke. I have a problem with fans calling in to begin with because only the elite players are televised during the round most of the time, so it's not fair to them. But to dock her 4 strokes the next day from a previous round is ridiculous. I give her credit as she did the post-round interview fighting back tears and even signed autographs as I wouldn't have been as diplomatic.

Wow; sounds like what happened to Tiger at Augusta a few years back but worse. How can they keep allowing couch-side refs?

Tiger and many other golfers actually tweeted after it happened how ridiculous it was. I was watching Golf Central after the round and they said they changed the rule last year as originally she would have gotten DQ'd. Now she gets penalized 2 strokes more for signing a incorrect card. It's still lame as I can't believe they keep allowing people with no lives to call in and change a whole golf tournament. What sport does that?

Even the girl who ended up winning said it didn't feel right taking the trophy.

Solid play by Dufner. Very entertaining final round. To throw up a 77 in the 3rd and win would be something.

CROMWELL, Conn. — Jordan Spieth holed out from 60 feet for birdie from a greenside bunker on the first hole of a playoff with Daniel Berger to win the Travelers Championship on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Spieth joined Tiger Woods as the only players in the modern era with 10 victories before the age of 24. Woods had 15 victories before he turned 24.
