Re: 2016 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

I hope this thread didn't spoil anyone who recorded the game and hadn't heard the outcome yet.

And I think I might've broken the poll down into by-number-of-game options in the past, but oh well.

I'm not a sports fan, but it made me smile when I heard what two teams were in the World Series.

My dad was a Cubs fan his whole life. The last time they won the pennant, he was a little kid. It would have been nice if he could have seen them win again.

Las Vegas has the Cubs as a heavy favorite. Which only means that they know the Cubs are going to get tons of betting action and they don't want to lose their shirts if they win.

There are a lot of people in similar situations who are happy the Cubs have gotten this far during their lifetimes. I bet your dad is watching now.

Re: 2016 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

Very cool pic. It is looking like Schwarber is a go for the WS. Not sure what his timing will be and he'll only DH and PH, but I have to think he will help the lineup. Play in the Arizona Fall League until Monday, play in the WS on Tuesday.

Bummer is we have a work deal that I was looking forward to Tuesday night (suite at a Stars game), now not looking forward to it so much, but I have to go.

This series will go 7. Cubs are great, but so is Cleveland.

I've voted Cubs every time we've been asked some variation of this question this season. No need to stop now. Cubs in 7.

Rooting for the Cubs just so Bartman can actually go to a game next year. I always felt bad for the guy especially if you watch the replay and the people next to him going for the foulball too. I always give Bartman credit that he didn't sellout and do an interview for $$$ and play the typical sob story to get his 15 minutes of fame.

Either way, both fanbases are starved for a title, so I'm cool whoever wins.

Bartman is one of the reasons I'd like to see the Cubs win too. I always thought the guy got a lot of undeserved shit. Last I checked, he didn't boot a routine double play grounder.

Gees, he hasn't seen big league pitching since April 7th, I'm not expecting much out of him.

As much as I love the concept of having him back in the lineup that's my biggest concern.

I was envisioning a pinch hit appearance at Wrigley (depending on the score/series) which would have been an amazing time to do it.
But....all we have to do is wait until tonight to see.

I am glad he is playing .. the other options for DH are not all that appealing. Soler has not been hitting, Coghlan ... ehhh, Montero ... has been hitting fairly well lately .. and obviously the Grand Slam in Game 1 .. but not really that thrilling, add to that Heyward hitting very poorly. Another LH bat will help against Cleveland. Add to that, the guy he is replacing on the roster did not get into the last series at all.

Re: 2016 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

It occurred to me that I will be within driving distance of Chicago this weekend and have nothing to do on Saturday with my son. Figured I should at least check to see what the cheap seats were going for at Wrigley. Turns out - tickets available from $1999 and up. To the local Indy sports bar it is!

Re: 2016 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

While chances are that Schwarber doesn't make much of an impact there is certainly the chance that he shows up with a hot bat. It's not the craziest scenario. We see guys come back from injury and play well right away all the time. Only difference here is that Schwarber is in the biggest spotlight.

Dan Haren was on Pardon My Take (sports podcast) recently talking about this. He pretty much said that Schwarber isn't the brightest guy in the world and may just be dumb enough to not overthink the situation.

Re: 2016 MLB Playoffs, World Series Edition

Cubs set their rotation: Lester, Arrieta, Hendricks, Lackey. No surprise that they pushed Jake up because Hendricks pitched on Saturday, and he has much better numbers at home so that works well on paper.

Yeah, I think the big loser is Tommy LaStella, who was on the roster for the first round but removed for the extra lefty against the Dodgers. LaStella probably would've been the prime DH candidate with Soler, so I expect him to retire before the first pitch tonight.

Schwarber is worth the shot to balance out the lineup. Remember he hit a ton when they called him up from the minors in the middle of last year (DHing in Cleveland, coincidentally) so he has a chance to contribute immediately.
