He is the NBA career leader in missed shots, by a significant margin too.

There is the "sainted seven", in no particular order, of Bird, Magic, Jordan, Lebron, Kareem, Wilt, and Russell. Then you add Oscar and Duncan.

Which then leaves West, Baylor, Hakeem, Moses, Kobe, and perhaps Shaq to fight for that tenth spot.

Personally, I would have Kobe last in that group, but I admit I am biased against him.
Shaq is by far the best in that group. The dude was Beastmode and the scariest player in the NBA for opposing fans for like a 6-8 year period.

I'd pick Hakeem over Shaq. But Shaq definitely had the better prime and peak years.

Okay, I did see the list. As I said, he's taken some questionable shots in his career. But, he was a shooting guard, played 20 years in the NBA and was the #1-2 scorer on his team. That will come with the territory with the longevity of his career.

If a few of the other guards on the list played 20 years, I'm sure they would have approached his numbers.

Re: 2016 NBA Off Season Thread

I don't really mind if people think Kobe is a ball hog and a chucker, I mean he did set the record for most missed FG's. That said, even taking away the Shaq years he still won 2 titles "his" way which is still more then a lot of guys out there. I think to say "a lot" of guys can give you the same would be a poor summation of his ability though, especially when he outlasted and was far more successful then any of the would be Jordan clones.

People are always going to have criticism for him, and advanced numbers aren't friendly to his legacy, but at this point I don't really care. To me he's still the second best SG ever, won a bunch of titles, and was easily one of the most fun players to watch the last 2 decades. The way people will tune in to watch Lebron or Curry these last couple years, I think Kobe was one of those guys people would tune in just to see if he had a crazy game. I'm ok with that.

That was the lowest in 13 years. That's not counting his 2 injury shortened years. He's averaged close to 5 assists per game in his career and IIRC led the Lakers in assists for a few seasons.

He averaged 27 shots per game back in '05-'06 (career high) and that was only because he had to carry the load for a super weak Laker roster that featured Smush Parker, Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown.

In the title years with Shaq ('99-02) He averaged only 20 shots per game, which is not ball hog numbers.

He gets a lot of shit because apparently he's not a very nice guy off the court and is deemed by some as anti-social. I'm sure there are plenty of other players in the league who are assholes off the court. Who gives a crap about that? He's was a fantastic player and somehow lasted 20 years in the league, which is well over the lifespan of most players and won 5 championships. He should be regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the game.
From 2004-05 to the present, he averaged at least 4 3-pointers a game, and his best percentage was .361, with only 2 of all those years being over .350; since 2009-2010, he never shot better than .325 from downtown (again, while putting up at least 4 a game). He is third all time in FGA (first among active players), led the league in FGA six times, and finished second 3 other times. He led the league in missed FGA six times, and and finished second 3 other times. And, as noted, is the all time leader in missed FGA. And nobody is within 1000 misses of him.

As for being a ball hog, he is also the active leader (and 3rd all time) in turnovers. He is second among active players at usage percentage, and 3rd all time. Usage percentage is "an estimate of the percentage of team plays used by a player while he was on the floor".

The evidence of chucker and ball hog is overwhelming. Denying it is absurd. Even as a ball hog and chucker, I still think he's top 20.

Nah, just LA.

I do respect the talent of those teams, but hate them anyway.

Damn LurkerDan, quit using facts to represent your argument.

Oh and I agree with you.

I miss her on the NFL Network and when she co-hosted NFL Fantasy Live though it seemed like she was always looking at the cards and did not know what to say.

Makes more sense why they hired D'Antoni.

Well, the Lakers' Summer League game went about as badly as it could. They lost to a Cavs team with nobody of note on it and in the process, Larry Nance apparently broke his shooting hand while driving to the rim.

When I said he reminded me a little of Blake Griffin, that's not what I had in mind.

Maybe they play better without him?

Well, unlike Griffin, Nance Jr. actually broke his hand playing basketball.
