It really does look like that! How did that get approved?

I do dig the purple Lannister Lion with a basketball.

The Kings should have moved to Seattle and become the Sonics again. That franchise is a mess.

Well, there is a reason that old logo went away for some time.

They would've had a good ownership team too, with Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer, who then wouldn't have bought the Clippers. Now there's a key agreement with the city expiring next year, and with the NBA not looking to expand or move a franchise, this effort may die away too.

I was a big fan of the Sonics, but I've gotten used to not having NBA basketball.

Jeanie Buss says she didn't even know Byron was fired until after the fact (when she turned on her cell phone after Gary Shandling's wake). They're really just going to let Jim sink or swim with this, huh?

LOL, there is no way she wasn't consulted or didn't know about this beforehand.

Re: 2016 NBA Off Season Thread

Good for him. Glad they're giving a young and promising coach a shot and not some hack retread.

Kind of reminds me when the Lakers hired Pat Riley. He was a back up guard on the team in the 70's and no-name. They hired him off the broadcast booth with no coaching experience. Look where he went with his career.

Luke's a smart guy. He's in a tough situation, but I think he will mesh well with the younger players.

Sounds good to me, and the fans will support him right away. Glad to have it settled so quickly.

Re: 2016 NBA Off Season Thread

I love the hire. Kenin Ollie was tempting, but in Luke you have the star assistant of the league, a guy who showed he was ready to lead young men, someone who gets the younger generation of players, someone without the taint of a failed previous coaching stint and someone with a strong Lakers legacy to boot.
Can Phil's return be far behind?

The 1990s were a dark age for sports aesthetics.

As long as Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak are around, it probably doesn't matter who the head coach is. Congrats on the pay raise Luke.

I don't really get any blame towards Mitch, he's done a pretty darn good job given he's been kind of hamstrung the last few years because of Kobe and the organization wanting to keep him happy. He pulled off trading Kwame for Pau and delivering 2 titles, and basically also completed trades for Chris Paul and Dwight Howard which isn't too shabby.

Re: 2016 NBA Off Season Thread

It wouldn't really make sense to bring back Phil. What role would he have with the team? Consultant? Yes, he's engaged to Jeanie, but it would feel very forced IMO.

Jim Buss and Mitch are the 2 in charge of player and personnel decisions. And it's already been documented that Jim will stay with the team at least through 2017 and see if they become a contender.

Called the obvious Walton hire right here last year during the Dubs championship run. Good luck to Luke and to the Laker fans.

Him saying he is forcing the triangle on anyone who coaches for him is also gonna severely limit his options on who he brings in.

Re: 2016 NBA Off Season Thread

Walton's deal is 5 years, $25M

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2016/...lion-contract/

I wonder if it's all guaranteed. Byron got a 4-year deal when he signed on, but only 2 of the years were guaranteed. The other 2 were option years.
