Fantasy Football question: d!ck move or genius... or both?

So I'm in a neighborhood fantasy league, inaugural year... only 8 teams (lame, I know)... and 4 of us have clinched the 4 spots in the playoffs. I've been in first place for all but 2 weeks this entire year.

Playoffs start in 2 weeks, however this week's game allows me the chance to do a little jockeying for position.

As the #1 seed I would be playing #4, but the problem is, is that he's come on strong as of late, crushing it, scoring crazy amount of points with his team over the last month, and in 2 weeks time, according to Yahoo, he is predicted to score 145 points whereas the #3 guy is predicted to only score 120 points. I know, I know, it's early, anything could happen but... if I throw this weeks game, and slide from the #1 to #2 slot with a loss (and assuming a win from the current #2 seed) then I would play the #3 seed in the first round of the playoffs and statistically have a better chance of winning. I've looked at the matchups, and it makes sense given who everyone plays in 2 weeks.

You might be asking, why are you give this so much thought? well, one, I'm super competitive, two, there is about $500 on the line, and three it's neighborhood bragging rights.

what if someone did that to you in a league you were in? and I am fully aware that it could all backfire on me.... thoughts?

I don't see how it's a dick move at all. If you're confident in getting an easier match up, you should go for it. Seems like a perfectly fine strategy to me, although if you're benching big players it might look weird to the other guys.

Not a dick move. I've though about doing something similar over the years, but have never pulled the trigger on it. Karma and the power of the fantasy football gods would ensure that the team I maneuvered into facing would have a monster week against. And the team I avoided would've shit the bed.

I'm going to be That Guy who mentions that we have a fantasy-dedicated thread in which you can ask this and other questions.

If current #2 is paying attention they can always do the same thing if they don't like it and "force" you to stay the #1 seed. If it was altering other things, like letting your opponent into the playoffs over another team that would be d!ckish.

It's not a bad move...heck, playoff teams do this in the NFL - they don't SAY they're doing it, but rest assured, they do. "We're resting our starters for the playoffs."

But that's not trying to manipulate the seedings. That's just trying to keep your top players healthy for the playoffs.

In the leagues I'm in, things are kind of set up to preclude this. Offering money awards for the top-team each week (in the league I run I do this for weeks 10-13) and in one league offering a money award for the top player at each position for the regular season.

Maybe I should have done that so I don't have to face Winston vs the Saints D on my opponents team though I might have missed the playoffs since several other teams would also have 6 losses.

Just wished I started Big Ben vs CLE when he was out with that injury but played after Jones got hurt but I started Dalton vs the Texans on MNF and I would have had a bye this week.

Epic fail.
