Hopefully this "announcement" (yeah, please, like it wasn't obvious you are done!) will equal Kobe accepting fewer minutes and taking fewer shots now that every stop is officially a curtain call.

Tomorrow's the epic showdown between the 76ers and the Lakers. The 76ers have actually been playing ok lately (like single digit losses) so this might be their first win of the season...

I am sorry to hear that Kobe is retiring. I have very much enjoyed his performance this season and wanted it to continue.

Duncan never had to play for the 76ers (or really, a losing team). Coincidentally, it seems like Bynum only lost his mind when he was traded to the Sixers (I know, I know, there was that playoff incident)...

Greg Oden is alive and well. Now in the Chinese Basketball Association.

19 pts, 24 rebs and 4 blocks in his debut.

Sixers are actually favored to win too! I hope the Lakers can beat them

Makes one wonder what somebody like Antony Davis or DeAndre Jordan could do in that Chinese league.

For DeAndre, it depends on how many fouls each opposing player has in the league rules.

That keeps the normal FG scoring down, but does nothing to prevent the blocks, rebounds, and put backs. Even the original hack a Shaq strategy was way overused to point point of being self defeating.

Spurs lose.

Thunder and Rockets lose.

Also, James Harden trying to play defense.

Lakers actually winning against the Sixers at the half - Kobe actually hitting some shots early on to the crowd's delight although he's already jacked up 11 3's

I'm not watching but looked at the updates, the Sixers outscored the Lakers by 10 (so far) halfway through the 3rd, so it'll be a "nail biter" to see who sucks less.

against the worst team in the league, Kobe is currently 7-23 and 4-15 from 3. But it's ok, he could have scored 80 and they wouldn't win this game, right?

Damn, I love this so much right now.

I guess the Sixers are going to win their first game

On the other hand, if the Lakers are going to be bad might as well be the worst and try and keep their pick this year. Part of me makes me think that's why the Lakers are ok with letting Kobe be terrible

Wow, just wow.

Terrible. Kobe really just looks like he's checked out and will fire shots at will.

I'm watching the post game studio show and man, the losing has even affected the studio show talent. Geeter, Worthy and Horry are really lethargic. Especially Geeter, he sounds like he doesn't even want to read the "highlights"

All of me thinks the only reason they will not succeed is that they are not the only ones with that on their GM brain.

I don't like it, but I have to agree that they need to take away all incentives that cause organizations to tank a season for draft picks (in all sports). Giving the worst teams higher draft picks could have been a good thing, which is why I don't like changing my opinion on this, but it has turned out to be something else entirely.

Re: The 2015 - 2016 NBA regular season thread

Byron Scott was apparently quoted tonight saying the Lakers are going to live and die by Kobe's shooting.

Just dumbfounded how he's been firing up so many bricks. Even Jordan wasn't this horrendous in his last season with the Wizards.

Jordan wasn't even close. He shot 44.5% from the field, and while his 3 pt shooting was horrendous (29%, still better than Kobe ) he only took 55 all season long (he played every game). Kobe has already doubled his total in just 14 games, jacking 7.6 per game. Jordan also averaged more rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. Jordan was actually still an effective player, if not the player he used to be.

Which is why I have no idea why Jordan's name was mentioned with the list of players that kept going after they should have retired. Wizards had no shot to win the title, even with Jordan. But he certainly was playing a hell of a lot better than many other teams best SG.

I watched the whole game last night (being a Sixers fan) and I understand that Kobe wanted to steal the show cause he grew up in Philly, but it started to get embarrassing.

He wasn't even trying to take it to the hole and maybe take a 10 footer, he was just dribbling to the 3 point line and chucking them up (especially in the 1st quarter). I have to say if Kobe doesn't play in that game last night, I think the Lakers may win that game because he ruins any flow of the offense because he doesn't pass the ball.

But then again, we have their top 3 lottery protected pick, so maybe that's why he is doing what he is doing.

I was going to say, the 76ers are going to regret not tanking this game if the Lakers really do end up with a worse record.

On the other hand, if they get two top five picks, there's gotta be some expectation of improvement for the franchise next year, right?

If you listen to the soundbite of Byron saying that Kobe will have nights like that, and they'll live and die by it, and hopefully live a bit more, he then chuckles. My how the expectations have fallen off a cliff. On the other hand, this is still better than Kobe in psycho mode "Jordaning" his teammates. Kobe in exhibition mode is probably the best they can hope for.

Has Nick Young recorded an assist to Kobe yet?

Re: The 2015 - 2016 NBA regular season thread

Jordan's PER in 2003 was 19.3, which is still almost all-star level. Kobe's is 9.5.

BTW, Steph Curry's PER right now is over 34. No player in NBA history has cracked 32 for a whole season.

Well Jordan was just battling age and rust, whereas Kobe is coming off 3 straight season ending injuries. It's more dumbfounding to me how everyone is somehow ok with it, if not for the reason I mentioned before where the Lakers brass (and Kobe himself) just doesn't care in lieu of tanking and everyone on the team knows it. Otherwise surely no one can be dumb enough to think Kobe jacking up more 3's then even during his prime is ok, right?

Although thinking back before the original achilles tear, Kobe was actually playing extremely well so its crazy how much of a drop off there's been.
