Thanks Mike Fiers!

I vote Matt Duffy. But it depends if the Giants can get into the playoffs.

I don't recall a time when a ROY race was determined by a team making the postseason.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 21 Aug 24-30

Cubs win the makeup game against Cleveland!

I forgot to check the time it would be on MLB.tv.

Jorge Soler and Jason Motte both went on the DL and may miss a month each. Maybe neither guy has been quite what was expected, but they've contributed, and you don't know what you're going to get with replacements. Soler has been a nice RH power balance to the lineup and has been a lot better since the All-Star Break.

Also of concern was when Dexter Fowler was beaned on the hand, but he did stay in the game. Fowler has been huge the second half of the season.

Bummed about Soler, he has been playing a lot better since the break.

Glad to see Lester get a good quality start, just wish he could have gotten the win.

It's going to be a rough road trip but hey they are 6.5 up for the Wild Card, they just need to keep on winning.

Red Sox fire or "let go" of their play by play announcer Don Orsillo. He's being replaced by the radio guy Dave O'Brien, who also works at ESPN.

The Astros are beating the Yankees so soundly that New York has a position player on the mound...in the 8th inning.

And Brendan Ryan throws 2 scoreless innings to keep the deficit at 15.

I had hopes the Dbacks could at least hang with the Cardinals. They did for most of yesterday, but today is another story. I know I'm expecting too much, but I would've liked to have seen them be a bit more competitive.

The rest of the NL Central was hoping for it too.

Great to get the first game, there will be no Giants payback sweep.
Still think the Giants have a good shot at taking the next two and the series.

If Cubs can take one of the next two it will be a very good series.

Is anyone starting to wonder about the dates teams will start clinching playoff spots?

Nice comeback win by the Blue Jays with a little help from the Rangers.

I'm disappointed.

Other than Don and Jerry, the Red Sox broadcasts on NESN are essentially unwatchable. In-game ads anywhere there's space (or not) for them, no on-screen scoreboard for 2/3 of the time (I assume to screw time shifters like me), and of course a crappy product on the field.

I believe this will be the last season I watch them.

Yep, it will be tough with Hendricks and Haren going against Peavy and Bumgarner.

It would've been nice to see Arietta go more than six, and for the bullpen not to implode and create a save situation out of an 8-1 lead, but that's quibbling. I'm not taking this winning for granted.

It has to be pretty soon for teams like Kansas City.

Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy have been the only thing making the Sox worth watching these past couple of seasons. Without Orsillo, I will find an alternative method to follow the Sox.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 21 Aug 24-30

Free Pizza Alert!

Justin Verlander has thrown 8 no-hit innings against the Angels tonight. He has faced the minimum through 8, walking 2, while erasing both with double play balls.

And I jinxed it.

Chris Iannetta gets a double in the 9th that actually hit the line and kicked up chalk. That's how close Verlander came to his 3rd no-hitter. And us to free pizza for the second time this week.

He ends with a 1-hitter, winning 5-0.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 21 Aug 24-30

The Angels keep on providing for their fans. The gift that keeps on giving.

I was joking with my buddy that since they scored eight last night they would score two tonight. Lol.

I believe this is the second time Verlander has had a no hitter broken up late against the Angels in Detroit. I believe there was a game where Erick Aybar bunted to break it up ( it was 1-0 or 2-0 at that point) and Verlander called it bush league.

EDIT: It was 2011, and I was right about everything except the score. It was 3-0 at the time, and upon fielding the bunt, Verlander threw the ball away allowing two runs to score. I believe the Angels went on to lose.

Damn, I was planning my strategy for finally getting a pizza.

Glad for Verlander, though. Maybe this is a sign of better times for him.
