MLB 2015 Week 19 Aug 10-16

This week's poll is inspired by my recent trip to Boston, where I finally got to see a game in Fenway Park. It was awesome to be in that shrine, though I have to say that just as a viewing experience, it was not as good as being in a newer park. I was in the right-field bleacher behind the Pesky pole, and facing the Green Monster. I had to turn in my seat to see home plate, and then my view was mostly obstructed by other fans. Plus the concourses were narrow and food options limited (only one vegan place). Don't get me wrong, though--I loved being there, and the neighborhood feel reminded me of Wrigley.

Camden Yards is probably the next big one on my list, and new Yankee Stadium, I guess. I suppose I'd like to go to Dodger Stadium, but it's not a big priority for me. Now and then I think about doing one of those road trips where I see every park but I don't know if it'll ever happen.

I do like my home park of Safeco if it's on anyone's list.

And damn it, I have a running e-mail draft in which I save potential poll questions, and I had all the ballparks listed in it alphabetically. As I was copy-pasting into the poll, one bad keystroke, and the whole mail was gone. Fortunately I had e-mail open in another window and was able to finish the poll, but everything else is gone. I guess I'll be winging the polls for the rest of the season. Have I mentioned that I hate my laptop keyboard?

Still a few I haven't been to that I'd really love to see, Fenway, Camden Yards, Wrigley.

I pity the fool that has the Rogers Centre on their bucket list.

I have been inside Fenway and Camden Yards but never on game days.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 19 Aug 10-16

I voted for AT&T Park in San Fran but forgot to also click on Wrigley Field. Derp.

Those are the only two places where I haven't seen a game and would like to. AT&T Park seems very aesthetically pleasing on TV plus I'm sure San Fran is a fun area to hang out. Wrigley Field because it's one of the few really famous parks I haven't visited. I've never been to Chicago but I hear there is a bar right near Wrigley that has batting cages and that sounds like my kind of bar.

I've been to Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway, Camden Yards, Tropicana Field, Minute Maid, Safeco and Dodger Stadium.

And now that I'm listing them out, I'd also like to visit PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

In reality, I'd love to visit every park I haven't been to yet, but instead I chose the ones I'd love to see the most. And these choices are based on history--Dodger Stadium, Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium (even though it's newer) and because of reputation (Camden, AT&T, PNC).

The only ball park i've been to that is still standing (barely) is Oakland Colosseum. So there are many I'd still like to see.

Don't really have a bucket list of stadiums, but I'd say Fenway will be the one I really want to see. Been to Chase Field (obv), Shea and old Yankee stadium, all 5 of the Cali ones, Colorado, both Chicago ones, CLE, Cincy, Det and Pit

Going to these aren't really a bucket list item for me, but would love to go to the classic ones like Fenway, Yankee Stadium, and Wrigley.

Camden Yards is just about the perfect ballpark to watch a game in. It's such a good stadium that the Phillies basically copied it for their ballpark.

Fenway and Wrigley for me.

My "home" park is PNC Park, so I get to experience that great park all the time.

Yeah, I saw the score and thought that the wheels were really coming off at the moment.

Cubs had the fourth best record in MLB after the weekend but only third in their division. And the Nats would be out if the playoffs were today.

Thank you Dodgers for sucking. Now if the Giants can just win a few games, they can take the division.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 19 Aug 10-16

Been to many of these but PNC and PetCo are two that I still have not been to and would like to go.

Been to the old Yankee/Shea Stadium many times and I really have no desire to go to the new ones. I've been lucky to have lived in cities with Yankee/Fenway and Wrigley in my area.

Besides the 2 Classics still standing (they are my favorites overall) I really liked Camden and AT&T (EDIT Forgot to add the Target was another one I liked a lot) out of the newer ones but I am really getting bored by the newer stadiums and absolutely HATE going to a park with a closed roof (though I do understand some with weather issues like heat and rain but still hate it).

ESPN commentators calling Toronto a "beer league softball team".

I'm not sure the video will play in the US but here's the link...

The NL Central is pretty absurd right now. The Cubs have to be annoyed that they have a such a good record and are 8.5 games out of first.

I confess I didn't think the Cardinals could sustain this level of success this far into the season with such a paltry offense and so many significant injuries, but their pitching has continued to be utterly ridiculous. Their team ERA as of today is 2.60. Here's a tidbit from the Post-Dispatch that I found interesting:
The 2015 Cardinals are on pace to finish with 466 total runs allowed. Only four teams in Cardinals history have played at least 150 games and allowed fewer than 500 runs. The 1968 team, anchored by Bob Gibsonís 1.12 ERA, allowed 472 runs in 162 games.

They're annoyed? The Pirates went through 21 years without a winning record and what happens when they finally get really good? They're in the same division with the best team in baseball.

The Cardinals have the reason to be upset. If they finish with the best record, their reward might be a matchup with the team with the 2nd/3rd best record.

Nothing is in the bag yet, however. Big series with the Pirates beginning tonight!

Ha, good point. The upcoming series will be really interesting. I think it's very plausible that the Pirates will end up finishing first in the division, because the Cardinals don't have the offense to make up for a couple of tired arms in September.

The Cubs might be a little frustrated, as their recent companions in futility--the Astros--are leading their division, but I think they have to be happy with how things have gone so far. This was supposed to be a building year, not a contending one, and they're developing their young players with a taste of winning and they didn't sell the proverbial farm at the deadline. Theoretically they should be even better next year and in years beyond.

This, I would have been happy with a .500 year. This is a team built for the long run that has more good young player to come up/and or be traded. They play good ball (minus the bullpen) and more importantly are really fun to watch. This is not (like in the past) a contending team with a bunch of players on the downside.

Epstein and Hoyer have made some brilliant moves (save Jackson). Signing Feldman and swapping him for Arietta is standing out as the best .. along with all the great players drafted.

They, the Pirates, and STL should all be good for some time and really push each other. The division will have its share of WS champions over the next several years.

It seems fated that the Pirates will lose in the one-game wild card spot to Madison Bumgarner again.

9th straight baby! I'm just enjoying the Blue Jays winning streak! This one feels much different than the 11 game winning streak we had earlier. This time we are beating better teams and they are playing more of a complete baseball in all aspects.
