There's something funny about Bonds defending ARod.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...-home-run-list

"Anytime anybody in the game does something that's a great accomplishment, the game of baseball should celebrate that," Bonds told USA Today Sports. "No matter what. Baseball is benefiting from that person's hard work, so baseball should at least celebrate.

"Why the hate? Why hate on something you're paying to see? I don't understand it. He's entertaining us. I wish life wasn't like that."
If he doesn't know why there's hate....

Bonds is basically talking about his records. He's just using A-Roid as a vehicle to get his agenda across.

That being said, Bonds defending A-Roid makes me hate A-Roid even more.

I actually think Bonds makes ARod more likeable because Bonds is probably the biggest DBag there is in sports.

In saying that, it kills me that Bonds juiced because the guy was the greatest player of my generation. Unlike McGwire, Bonds was already a Hall of Famer before he juiced, and it sucks that I cant pound my chest to my grandkids that I saw one of the greatest hitters of alltime play like previous generations said to me about Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Willie Mays.

I like Jason Heyward as a Cardinal but he is nowhere near a 200 million dollar player like I have seen some people talk about. Hell, I would be hard pressed to give him more than 15 million a year with how shaky he is at the plate. Yes, he is a great outfielder and has size, but he swings wildly at the plate and doesn't use his physical attributes to spray the ball all around the field.

155 million is still a lot to give a guy that is still just an average hitter. That puts him at around 20 millions per season for 7/8 seasons.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 2, Apr. 13-19

Haven't read the article yet, but his career trajectory is looking a lot like Griffey's, numbers-wise. Spectacular numbers in his 20s, and a big drop-off in his 30's. He won't lose as many games as Ken did to injuries, so he'll end up with more HRs, but probably not by that much.

Speaking of drop-offs, it wasn't that long ago Pujols and Ichiro had .333 career batting averages. Now they're both at .317. Father Time takes no prisoners.

The Cubs signed one of the biggest prizes in free agency this winter when they locked up Jon Lester to a six-year, $155 million contract to be their ace. In Lester's first two starts with the team, however, a major issue has emerged: Lester is struggling to make one of the basic plays in baseball. Lester can't make routine pickoff throws to first base, which has led to speculation he has the yips.

On Monday night, Lester made two pickoff attempts to first base. These were significant because they were Lester's first pickoff attempts in 67 starts, dating back to April 2013. And we can see why he didn't throw to first for two years. The first throw was not terrible, but it did cause first baseman Anthony Rizzo to come off the base to make the catch. But Lester's second pickoff was a disaster, with the ball sailing well over Rizzo's head and into right field.

That Lester has struggled with his pickoff move is not new. As pointed out by Ben Lindbergh of Grantland, Lester began working to improve his pickoff attempts as long ago as spring 2012. Teams almost certainly noticed Lester had stopped throwing to first base in 2013 and 2014.

But what differs now is that before Monday night, Lester still held the threat of throwing to first base and keeping potential base stealers close to the bag.

From the point of the view of the runner, there is a big difference between thinking the pitcher doesn't like to throw to first base and knowing the pitcher can't throw to first base.

For a while, runners did not appear to be taking much advantage of Lester's lack of pickoff attempts. Data compiled by Lindbergh shows that runners are not attempting steals much more often against Lester than the Major League average rate of 5.6% stolen-base attempts over the past seven seasons. But there was a pretty sharp rise in 2014 over the past two seasons, when Lester may have still had a reputation as being a good pickoff pitcher.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that he thought the problem was "being a little overplayed right now" and that it would "get better.". But until it does, the cat is clearly out of the bag, and teams are going to run all over the Cubs until Lester demonstrates that the problem is fixed.

After 8 games:

Ian Desmond has made 6 errors which have led to 10 unearned runs.

The Yankees have committed 11 errors.

Miami has hit 1 home run (it wasn't by Stanton)

That is why the Braves traded him away. He's a great defender and plus baserunner, but when push comes to shove doesn't hit enough for a $200 million player. A team would be nuts to give him that kind of money. A guy his size should be driving the ball more but his awkward swing limits his power potential. He also has trouble handling a good fastball.

ESPN Chicago reporting Bryant will be called up tomorrow and be in the lineup against the Padres. Apparently the concerns the Cubs had about his defense and other shortcomings have been addressed.

Honestly, I do think they would've preferred to hold off till the next road trip, but they've had two 3Bs get hurt, and the timing forced their hand.

Re: MLB 2015 Week 2, Apr. 13-19

It seems that whenever the talking heads get really behind a prospect he never lives up to the hype. Jason Heyward, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg come to mind as guys with huge hype behind them. Heyward is only 25 but it doesn't seem that he'll ever get to that next level. Harper is only 22 and I think he'll eventually break through but he hasn't been the phenom they all thought he would be. Strasburg is solid but not that generational ace they thought he'd be. Doesn't seem like he'll ever get there either.

Compare that to Yasiel Puig, Mike Trout and Matt Harvey who didn't get much attention until they were already in the majors.

Hopefully Bryant is the exception to this. I would love to see him be that guy for the Cubs. Their fans deserve it.
