Hoping for the wild card this year... if we can get some decent hitting and find someone to close out games, I don't think its impossible

All I ask is that the Mets stay within striking distance (3-4 games) of the division lead and/or wild card until at least August.

Re: 2015 NY Mets' March To A Championship!
Reasons why I'm optimistic for the season:
1. League avg in hitting last yr. They have since added Cuddyer, Mayberry, and Long (batting coach). They also crushed it in the grapefruit league...while looking good w mechanics too.
2. Addition by subtraction: EYJ, Chris Young, Valverde, Farnsworth, and Rice (demoted to minors). I wish Tejada was on this list.
3. They strengthened their BP. A bunch of young arms + Torres and high-upside Blevins. I liked denDekker, but he was redundant. Mejia scares me a the elbow, but they have some depth. Flamethrowers abound.
4. Starting pitching..,they are 7-8 guys deep, even w Wheeler out. Harvey, deGrom, Colon (I know...I know..but dude grinds), and Neise...that is a pretty solid 1-4. Look at the stats, particularly 2nd half stats, they are good. Gee/Montero #5. Syn & Matz are elite talent in AAA.
Reasons I worry:
1. Ownership SUCKS!! The Wilpons are horrible owners and ppl.
2. Terry Collins can't manage his way out of a wet paper bag.
3. BP management. I prefer a close by committee approach, though Collins manages like a drunk and delusional LaRussa. 5 pitchers after Colon?!! Same f'ing Collins.
4. The Mets' history of collapse. They need to sack up this year.

I think the Mets could be playoff bound. They're in the "why not us" category of playoff contenders.
Harvey needs to stay healthy. DeGrom needs to pick up where he left off last year. Gee and Niese gotta be reliable on the back end.
Colon has shown time and again that he can hang for a few months. Then he disappears. Collins needs to pull the plug on him right away. They don't have the luxury of giving him 5 more starts than he deserves.
While I think they're a lot closer than they've been in the last few years, I still think they're a big bat (or 2) and a reliable bullpen arm (or 2) away from really contending. They have the pitching prospects to bring in a top flight hitter (and really should have used that depth to get someone this offseason). As for the bullpen, that's really on the manager. I don't think Collins is the guy.

1-1.
deGrom looked good. He literally made 1 not good pitch and it was 2 runs. The Met's bats...off. Grandy got SCREWED early on when the bases were loaded. Junk call.

I know it is only 1.3 games into the season but...,
Mets' MVP thus far...Ian Desmond! 3 errors to keep rallies going.

Harvey shutting out the Nats through 5. They're winning 6-0. They're about to take 2 out of 3 from the team everyone thinks will win the World Series, so logically, now everyone has no choice but to think the Mets will win the World Series.

Not only will we make the playoffs, Harvey is getting the Cy Young and Wright will be MVP. Isn't that what the beginning of the season is for? Hopes and dreams?

4-3...another gem by deGrom.
The Mets need to start hitting. That said, Duda has held his owner v. Lefties...just need more HR and support.
Weirdest combined stats of the season so far:
Grandy has:
8 walks in 6 games.
.063 BAA
.348 OBP

Crap for Mejia, but at least Parnell comes back soon. And Familia does have good stuff. Hopefully he can step up there.
Harvey and deGrom will be a damn solid 1-2 combo, but we can't win 2-0 games the whole season. I would like Collins to put Lagares back at lead off and push everyone down, or even have him bat 9th.
Still too early to think ahead too far though.

Even though I'm a Yankee fan, i watch the Mets from time to time. Holy shit, did someone piss in Ron Darling's cheerios this morning? He hasn't stopped bitching and moaning the entire game.

I'm obviously biased since I've watched them since SNY started, but I really think that Gary, Ron, and Keith are one of the top sports announcing broadcast teams working today in any sport. They obviously root for the Mets but can still be objective in calling things the way they are and actually commending the opposing team when appropriate.
And onto the bad news, once again David Wright is going on the DL for his hamstring. 15 day DL is guaranteed but I can see this lasting as least a month. Eric Campbell potentially being called up as a replacement.

Re: 2015 NY Mets' March To A Championship!
As an aside I watch so many Mets games that whenever Gary's voice starts in a broadcast my two year old son will grab his baseball bat and ball and tell me "daddy, baseball!" He could be in another room and still do it. Doesn't happen with any other announcer.
I think Ron's announcing career almost perfectly parallels his pitching career. He is normally good and above average with periods of greatness. However, he can also get bombed and have to get pulled in a couple innings after giving up 10 runs. I mean, who else would you rather have when Keith takes his breaks throughout the season?
