Re: 2014 NFL Wildcard Weekend

I would love to see Detroit take out Dallas. But I don't expect it. Will likely be a home field sweep.

I wonder if that decision involved Jerry Jones writing Roger Goodell a check.

Goodell is in Mara's pocket so I doubt it.

That seems a little low when you consider that he was suspended for two games the last time he stomped on someone.

As a Dallas hater I would normally agree with you, but as a Seahawks fan, if Dallas wins, we get the winner of Arizona-NC and if Detroit wins we have to play Detroit, so I am forced to root for Dallas.

If you want to win, you want to play Detroit.

Re: 2014 NFL Wildcard Weekend

Tom Brady seems like a guy who really wants to keep winning:

In a deal turned into NFL today, Tom Brady restructured his contract to give NE $24 million more in cash to spend this winter, per sources.
Under the new deal, Brady changed the $24 million in “skill” guarantee to only “injury” guarantee, meaning that Brady now would get the guaranteed money only if he were injured. Brady also now can be released from the Patriots without any liability, but he then would become an unrestricted free agent, free to command the type of guaranteed money he has agreed to surrender. This frees up cash for the Patriots to use on other players. New England needs the cash to help re-sign some of its own free agents such as Darrelle Revis, Devin McCourty, Nate Solder and Shane Vereen, amongst others.

Must be a roomy pocket, because Goodell is also in Rooney's pocket. Perhaps Rooney's pocket is inside Mara's pocket, like one of those Russian nesting dolls.

It is kind of crazy if an NFL team doesn't have enough cash to feel comfortable paying out signing bonuses this offseason and putting $24 million in escrow for Brady. The move doesn't save them money or cap space over the long run*, they just don't have to escrow the $24 million now.

* Assuming they're not going to screw over Brady by cutting him, which they're not going to do.

Keep in mind that Brady isn't the breadwinner in his marriage.

Re: 2014 NFL Wildcard Weekend

With the exception of Big Ben and Flacco 2-10 is the combined playoff record of all the starting QBs playing in the Wild Card round.

Dalton probably has most of those losses.

Wow, I'd bet the under on the Pittsburgh/Baltimore game. It' will probably be 10-9, knowing these teams.

I remember years ago Dan Patrick asked Peyton Manning in an interview if he considered taking less money when he signed his last big contract with the Colts and he was so offended he didn't talk to him for 6 years.

I think Brady has done contract restructuring before as it is.

Looks like he got a $1 million/year bump in base pay to go with it, not that it puts him anywhere near 'Cutler money' salary-wise.

13 carries over three games, but it's pretty much the same thing.
