Black Monday 2014 - Which NFL coaches will be fired? (Discussion Thread)

I probably should have started this poll earlier since most of the East coast folks here are probably asleep.

Firings will probably start at 9 or 10am ET on Monday

I know firings are hard to predict, so the poll is pretty subjective. Some of these guys may be given another year, but it's hard to predict.

I voted Ryan, Sparano and Trestman as the pretty obvious choices.

Re: Black Monday 2014 - Which NFL coaches will be fired? (Discussion Thread)

The Giants would be crazy to fire Coughlin.

I think the Redskins would be smart to hang onto Gruden, but with their owner, who the heck knows what they'll do.

Mike Smith will go...he needed to go years ago.

As I mentioned in another thread, I think it's more likely Rex Ryan will appear on a pregame show next season than a sideline somewhere. We'll see.

I'm anxious to see if any Playoff coaches wind up on the hot seat...for example, if either (or both) the Bengals and the Cowboys are "one and done" are they looking for a change?

Trestman didn't sound like he had much support from the players after the game yesterday. Forte called the play calling predictable and a lot of them brought up the Kromer thing again. He's definitely gone.

Sadly, until Virginia dies and the family has to sell the front office will continue to be a clownshow.

Rex Ryan is the first domino to fall. Idzik is also gone.

Bears should have hired Bruce Arians. Glad they didn't, but I doubt they would be the mess they currently are had they gone that route.

People are dropping like flys. I wish Atlanta would fire Dimitroff as well

Dimitroff isn't the problem in Atlanta. He has a great eye for talent. Not sure you could do better.

Brian Kelly's name has been thrown around this morning on talk radio but there's not "it" guy this year aside from Harbaugh.

He's done horrible the last few years with picks excluding Matthews and let lots of good talent go. They say he is "safe for now". ESPN kept saying he next coach for Atlanta would be Rex Ryan. I'd rather look at other options

Re: Black Monday 2014 - Which NFL coaches will be fired? (Discussion Thread)

I could see Tom Coughlin "resigning" or even retiring. But I doubt the official decision would come down as a firing. Gruden could also get the axe, but one would hope he would get more time.

All I know is I hope the Seahawks go far into the postseason so their coordinators don't get picked to fill these spots. As it is, there is talk that the DC might be headed to college to coach his old team.

Re: Black Monday 2014 - Which NFL coaches will be fired? (Discussion Thread)

Not that I'm suggested in any way that he could/should be fired, but has there ever been a more "he'll never win big, but he wins just enough" coach than Marvin Lewis? I remember running into him in Detroit during Super Bowl XL week, and thinking he'd be looking for a job in a few years, and he's still going. What do you do with a five-time wild card game loser (soon to be 6)?

Re: Black Monday 2014 - Which NFL coaches will be fired? (Discussion Thread)

As a Jets fan, it's bittersweet losing Rex. He did his damndest to change the culture around the Jets. And despite all the bullshit that surrounded the team, the players never stopped fighting for him. He's not too great on the X's and O's outside of the defense but the GM's didn't help him much with the roster.

On the other hand, 4 non playoff seasons in a row and two failed QB's. A change needs to be made. You simply can't sell the fanbase on another year of Rex.

Rex doesn't seem too keen on going back to being a coordinator and I don't know if any HC jobs will be available for him. I think Atlanta is the best fit for him. They already have an offense in place. He can build the defense there and turn that team around. Though I think the best bet for him might be to take his brother's job in New Orleans.

As for Idzik, I don't know. I think he's being judged too harshly simply because he didn't hit with Geno Smith. The problem there is that Geno was a second round pick. It's not like the RGIII trade where they gave up 3 years worth of picks for a guy that didn't pan out. This was your run of the mill draft pick and being that it was a second rounder there isn't much money involved. I would have given him a chance to pick his own coach and see how the next draft went but the fanbase and media is too impatient for that.

I can see there being an uproar if he is fired. And not exclusively because they think he will eventually take them to the Super Bowl.

I agree Idzik should have been given more time. I too believe Ryan will land in Atlanta.

Was his brother fired? Hadn't seen that come out yet. Would be far more interesting to have Rex hire his brother and see them roaming the sidelines for the same team. It would also cut down on the number of teams with Ryans. Win-win for everybody.

I was thinking of starting a pool where you'd have to pick the sequence of firings, but with so many heads rolling within 24 hours of each other it was going to prove to be too difficult.

Perhaps next year, when there aren't so many incompetent coaches and/or impatient owners.

Emery and Trestman fired and now Ted Phillips being kicked out of the football decisions and back to business only is the hat trick I was hoping for, but didn't think would happen.

I don't know if Rob was fired but I heard grumblings over the past few weeks that he'd be let go. He obviously didn't get the job done in New Orleans.

I don't think Rex and Rob will ever work together. I just don't see them wanting that. But that's just the feeling I get, I could be completely wrong.
