Carlos Martinez has been fantastic. I think Matheny deserves a ton of credit. Martinez had been a little erratic during the regular season, but Matheny has made him *the* guy in the 7th & 8th inning, and "Baby Pedro" has delivered.

Good thing the Sox have their Murderer's Row coming up in the bottom of the 9th...

Well done, St. Louis.

Contributions from several guys to put the memories of Game 1's debacle behind them.

My stomach was in knots most of the night. I am still in disbelief.

All knotted up. It is amazing what one night and a couple of mistakes can mean to a series.

Tough game. With Lackey pitching well, with a lead going into the 7th, one out, and (I believe) 1-2 on the hitter, I thought we were in good shape. Bad time to give up a walk.

Nice agressive double-steal by St. Louis. I think at that point in the game they were approaching it as a must-win, and it paid off.

That was huge, no doubt about it. Then Breslow comes in and can't find the plate and looking like he doesn't want any part of being on that mound. I'm screaming at the TV for Farrell to remove him. I could swear that some shots of Lackey in the dugout made it clear that he's thinking the same thing about Breslow that I was thinking. Yuck.

On to game 3.

I'm not 100% familiar with the postseason roster of the Sox, but the other 2 left handed options out of the pen are Doubront and Morales, correct? It seems as if they're reserving Doubront to fill in for Buchholz if needed and Morales didn't look good against the Tigers. I admit that Breslow didn't look comfortable, but I'm not sure if there was a better option considering the run of left handed hitters the Cards had coming up in the 7th. Of course, in hindsight, any option was a better one.

That's correct. I have no problem with putting in Breslow. It's just staying with him when all the bells should be sounding in your head telling you to pull the plug. I'd have brought in Tazawa (who was already ready to go) and then have gone to Workman in the 8th. That doesn't mean it would have worked but I would have taken my chances.

Meanwhile, Carlos Martinez looked terrific and I think bringing him in the night before paid off and he looked far more comfortable in his second outing. The dude has some nice action on his ball.

Breslow's main fault (besides the obvious error) was not being aggressive enough with Descalso up. Perhaps Kozma jockeying around out there disrupted things. Otherwise, he made a decent pitch to Carpenter to get the fly to left. Crazy thing on that play, if Gomes makes an accurate throw home, they might have had him. If so, and the Red Sox hang on, Breslow is one of the heroes. Then after the sac fly and error, it sounded as if Farrell was determined to have Beltran bat right handed which backfired and led to another run.

2nd World Series in history to draw a single digit rating in both game 1 and game 2.

That wasn't during the World Series. I'm not sure when it happened or what it was about.

Regular season game. Ortiz struck out, went back to the dugout and smashed the dugout phone with his bat, Pedroia was standing near by and had to duck/avoid splintered phone debris as well as the follow through by Ortiz.
