Its not fair!
And the funny thing or scary thing is they nearly won at least two more Superbowls, one Cup Final, and one NBA title during that span as well.

Make that at least two....

Very good WS, and I enjoyed it immensely. Cards could have made a better showing of it, but the hitting....woof. what a stinkburger (and yep....just like the dodgers).

Hopefully 2014 will be another exciting year!

I'm not complaining either. However, you need to have players that are "good enough" at ALL positions to win the World Series and Boston's players played to that level and many of the Cardinals didn't. Kozma could be a decent player but I wouldn't put any money on it. And Freese just flat out sucked. It is too bad that Rafael Furcal didn't have his surgery a few months earlier and make it back in time for the playoffs. The last two years of his contract were basically worthless.

And no, I'm definitely not a Boston fan. That city has been spoiled for titles the last fifteen years or so.
If Boston Strong wasn't derived from the tragedy then I never heard of it and I take my previous post back.

If they do, that's pathetic. Boston was back to normal within a week of the bombing. I at the whole Boston Strong nonsense.

What's pathetic is someone ranking tragedies. As if the family of the 8 year-old boy that was killed by the second bomb got back to "normal" after a week. As if the 16 people that had amputated limbs that have to deal with that reality the rest of their lives needs to be categorized and dismissed by someone on the Internet. There is a far bigger picture than sports. One of those things is people rallying together during a time of need. You should be ashamed of yourself.

That family deserves sympathy. Some random Boston dude who is unrelated to that family....no. The fact is that the city was back to its normal self within a week. I totally agree that it is a far bigger picture than sports, which is what makes Sawx Nation grabbing onto that tragedy, making it some rallying cry for their baseball team, sad and they should be ashamed for it.

Katrina and the Saints is completely different. The city was obliterated. Hundreds of thousands lives were changed. The Saints are basically the only game in town. The Saints played an entire season outside of NO. They almost left NO for good. So yes, I will contrast the circumstances.

It would be like me asking for sympathy (or having DC rally around a sports team) because of the DC Snipers a decade ago. Or asking for sympathy for the Navy Yard tragedy a month ago. That would be ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is suggesting that Boston was asking for sympathy. What's ridiculous is suggesting that Bostonians rallied around a sport team rather than Bostonians rallying around their city. Last I checked David Ortiz didn't say this is our fucking team he said, "This is Our fucking City." With Patriot, Bruin, Red Sox players visiting victims in the hospitals and the like. Sure there is a special connection between the Boston Marathon and the Red Sox. It's why the Red Sox play their game early each and every Patriots Day ... so that their fans can join the rest of Boston in rooting for the Marathon runners after the game. "Boston Strong" was hatched as an idea mere hours after the Boston Marathon Bombings by two Emerson College students. It's about that tragedy and the reason why thousands of Red Sox fans went to the finish line of the Marathon after Game Six.

This thread has largely been congenial. Red Sox fans NOT acting like poor winners. Disappointed Cardinal fans having the class to congratulate the Red Sox on their season. Too bad you couldn't join them.

Too funny. Peavy buys a duck boat.

Boston Red Sox ✔ @RedSox

So @JakePeavy_44 is fired up because he bought this boat. Yup, the whole thing. This is our Ducking City! http://twitpic.com/djr0ig

The Red Sox took out a full-page ad in today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

I'm not sure how I feel about those newspaper ads. Chicago put one in the Boston Globe after the Blackhawks won the cup this last spring. I think the motives and intentions are completely positive and well-meant, but it's kind of like "thanks for playing---we just want you to know that we fully appreciate that we couldn't have won the series if you hadn't been there to lose it."
