You are correct, I just inadvertently used the same word the OP used to instead describe Hernandez sarcastically. And definitely did not intend to argue that part of the OP's statement.

In terms of the victim he at least was in fact a good guy from all accounts that "maybe" deserved a little beat down maybe with some fists at worst. But instead tragically lost his life because of all things "words" that were spoken.

re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

The Patriots are offering a free jersey exchange to those who bought a Hernadez one. Classy move by a classy organization.

“We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore,” said New England Patriots spokesperson Stacey James. “We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.”

That's awesome. I don't think many owners would be willing to do that.

What is it with pro athletes (as well as movie and music stars) that they cant leave their previous shitty lives behind.
I guess they figure they can lead a more productive thug life with more money
Should the sports world start screening ? I mean anyone here think guys like this should be given such opportunities and loads of money for living these lifestyles ?

Can people get any player they want, or does the new jersey have to be Tebow?

I think you can only exchange it for a Haynesworth jersey.

I actually think these days the majority of owners would do the exchange. Besides the exposure here is pretty small since he has not been in the league very long and it is only open to people in the New England area that can make to one of two locations for two days only. All fans that can't make it are out of luck.

I wonder if the NFL offices suggested this to the Pats.

I'm proposing a league wide ban of any player arrested for any reason. You get arrested, you can no longer play in the NFL and will never get a chance to play.

Great, so a Jets fan cop "arrests" Tom Brady on bullshit charges that can't possibly stick, Brady goes free, but is banned from the NFL for life?

A ban on tattoos would also keep the filth out of the league...

When was the last time a fan could EASILY get a star player banned for life?

Fair enough. Ok I guess there should be an investigative committee to review arrests before bans.

It's ridiculous that a league has a player arrested every week.

No doubt it's a problem. I just don't want to make new rules that could create a whole new set of problems. Theoretically, you could say "for every x arrests per year, the % of revenue that goes to the players goes down y percent. Make players hold each other accountable. But then some owners might start signing nothing but criminals so the owners cut of the revenue goes up.

re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

At least look up backgrounds. I mean getting a job at Home Depot gets the average Joe THAT. Why cant the NFL do the same when it looks to pay millions to potential problematic players.
If current players start getting into trouble with the law Teams really need to step up and take action.
Too many players think they can do whatever they want because of what they do and have money to bail them out when in trouble. Many lead problematic lives that involve the law and need to be dealt with.
I dont have a solid solution but the NFL and the Teams need to come up with something. This is becoming the norm now.

Teams do look up backgrounds. There have been several stories this past week of teams that past on Hernandez because of his background. He was after all taken in the 4th round when many scouts considered him to be a second rounder talent wise.

The Pats took a chance and for a little while it paid off but not in the long run.

My proposed ban would also keep teams from taking a risk and thinking they can change the person. Fuck that. There is no rehabilitation for those thugs.

And what's funny is if you asked any casual NFL fan to guess which team lead the way, you'd get the right answer.
