The Flames aren't very good anyway. They could probably just freeze that water from the flood and play on top of it. Nice for the people with the nosebleeds as they can get up closer.

I always thought Zolnierczyk played like an idiot and took dumb penalties. Not sure what Shero is thinking. Hopefully not his idea of a Cooke replacement.

Flyers are using their second and final compliance buyout on Bryzgalov. He'll make $23M over then next 14 years to not play goalie for the Flyers. Not terribly surprising, although I thought he might get one more year to straighten things out. At least we know now that whatever crazy deals Holmgren hands out now are staying on the books. Expect a Comcast rate increase any day now.

I would like to see them end up in Seattle .. it would make for a nice geographic rivalry with Vancouver and keep a good West Coast presence/reasonably travel schedule (and actually improve it if the NHL does things like make a road trip consist of playing some combo of Anaheim/LA/San Jose/Seattle/Vancouver in one trip.

The Flames management is saying it'll be ready for the season and haven't announced any contingency plans for if they can't get it ready. They may have to start the season on the road, at worst, is my thought.

This is why I have to laugh at the owners insistence to lockout the players, yet many teams are going to have to eat these big contracts through the amnesty clauses to keep with a lower salary cap.

So the Flyers just bought out Briere and Bryz to get under the new 54 million dollar salary cap. Glad we missed half of the season to save money in the long-run!

Unfortunately some from Philly (their GM?) said on NHL Network yesterday they didn't see Bobby as an option. Would have been fun to see!

Sounds like the Blues signed Patrik Berglund to a one-year deal for $3.25m, and Kevin Shattenkirk for four years at $17m. I wish Berglund would earn his raise by being more consistent, but I am very happy to see them tie up Shattenkirk.

Tampa Bay uses a compliance buyout on Lecavalier. They'll have to pay him $32M over the next 14 years.

Pens re-sign Kunitz to a 3 year extension at 3.85M/year. That would seem to put a cap on what they're willing to pay Dupuis.

I would think Toronto and Montreal would both be going after Lecavalier. He has lost a bit the last couple of years, and no way justified what Tampa would have had to pay him, but he is still definitely a coveted asset. If Richards gets bought out he will be too. Maybe they can sign at the same place and get the gang back together.

Blackhawks used their compliance buyouts on Steve Montador and Rostislav Olesz. Kind of surprised they didn't save one for after next season to buyout Hossa.

Sounds like Dave Bolland will be moved at the draft and Bickell will probably be back.

I agree, these amnesty's are made to rid teams from those 11 year contracts everyone was signing a few years ago. We all know that Hossa will not play out the contract, and it just causes cap problems down the road when he retires.
