First year you bought baseball or sports cards?
1965 Topps Baseball cards. Later that year started buying those over-sized Topps AFL cards.
I remember also buying Monster cards-including Creature From the Black Lagoon.

1989 Upper Deck - Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card
Late 80s for me as well - started with baseball, then to football and Marvel Cards. Dabbled in basketball and hockey cards, too. Still have bins full of them in the basement at the house I grew up in... likely worthless. I always wondered if parents of kids in my generation held onto their kids' collectible cards because of all the horror stories they had about their parents tossing out what became, at one point, valuable pieces of card stock.
Had a bunch of those Topps Dinosaurs Attack! cards and then those awesome Fright Flicks horror movie trading cards.

1978, I think, and I went back to get some from 1977 and earlier. I became a real baseball nut in summer '77 so that makes sense.
My head exploded a few years later with Topps/Fleer/Donruss. Glossies, 5x7s, foils. I stopped in the mid-'80s, but I always liked those conventions.

1982, Topps. I was given some 1980 Topps cards by a friend, so those were the earliest I ever owned.

Started at the end of 1986 right before that Wood grain '87 set came out from Topps. Pretty sure I was done by 1990-1991.

76-77 Topps Hockey.
My uncle ran a corner store accross from where I lived so anytime I had a quarter
I ran in there and bought a pack.
I think I got a Ross Lonsberry in every other pack. Was a flyers fan but that was a bit much.
The only card I could never get to compete the set was ......

I'm guessing late 70s. I remember having some 78 Topps in my collection. Eventually spread from baseball to baseball and football to eventually baseball, football, and hockey.
I think the last serious time I bought cards was on a trip to Toronto in 94.

89-90, when the glut hit. I worked in a card shop for a year or so and wasted so much money on them at that time. Was collecting hockey cards in 83, but mostly to play with (tossing against wall).

My grandmother was a die hard Phillies fan, so I became one too, started collection baseball cards in 1987, the Topps were my favorite. Stopped collecting in '92, I still have them all.

1988 Topps was the first set I ever completed. I was done with cards in 1992 or so.

Late 89 or whenever the 90 Score football cards came out. I loved the art on some of them. I still see boxes of them for sale to this day.

1981 Topps Baseball Cards from local drug store. Was too young and didn't take care of them. I think I collected until 1983.
Stopped for several years, then got back into it in 1989 for Topps Baseball. Got really into it for several years collecting all sports. Went to card shows, spent all my allowance money on it. Around 1995 or 1996 when the cards market started crashing, I sold everything. Got out of it for good.
In a way, I kind of regret spending so much money on it. Wasted alot of it on absolute junk.

Re: First year you bought baseball or sports cards?
I have complete Topps baseball series from 1980 thru 1989 or so, but No clue as to when I actually started, maybe 84 or 85ish. I was 7 when the Tigers won the series in 84, so I'm guessing it was sometime after that. When I started collecting them, my dad started buying me complete sets for Christmas for each year going backward.
