It wasn't proving any point, it was just a column I found interesting and thought you (and others here) might find interesting too, especially since it captured both sides' viewpoint pretty well.

And I'll post what I care to post.

I'm not sure why everything has to be so black and white for you. Either people agree with you or they're arguing with you.

It was just an interesting column about a topic under discussion here. There was no secret agenda, no grand conspiracy, no master point to it.

FWIW, I have a patent dad who played college ball and went to the NCAA Tournament and is still involved in the college game. He came in this afternoon and I asked him his opinion on Jump Ball vs Possession Arrow. He immediately said he prefers the Jump Ball, but then added that he thought most refs wouldn't be able to throw the jump ball correctly. It should also be noted that he's probably 6'7", so that might figure in his opinion.

Well I guess we can assume Kansas is the favorite in the Big 12 again.

Kansas seems like a great fit for him. Talented pieces around him that he can elevate to an elite team, and yet he's still going to be the undisputed star. Can't the season start already!

That's a surprise to me, but a very, very happy one.

Choke on that, Calipari!

BTW : ESPN just revised their pre-season rankings and moved KU from #25 to #5.

I'm not sure Cal is really that upset, BBN seems a bit hurt. Only a partial meltdown.

20 spots? Is this guy the second coming of Pete Maravich?

ESPN called him the best high-school prospect since LBJ. I'd check those expectations at the door, though.

Oh yeah, he'll be fine. It's still a historic recruiting class for Kentucky. And I wondered how much the offense would run through Wiggins at Lexington with all that other talent there, all promised a lot of playing time as well. It's just it seems like Cal's getting pretty used to landing everyone he targets, so it's nice to see him miss out on a big fish.

I totally forgot about him. ESPN has him as #2 this year. He signed with Duke, so we'll get to see these guys head-to-head in Chicago in October.

ESPN has KU's new center, some guy named Joel Embiid at #6 overall, which is a total shock to me because I hadn't even heard a peep about him while their other signing (Seldon) got all the hype.

Congrats Kansas fans. As for BBN, did it really make sense for another Alpha Male to come? Cal is going to have enough trouble keeping egos in check.

Re: Official College Hoops 2013 Off-Season and Coaching Carousel Thread

The SI/Parker cover came out quite a bit before Wiggins reclassified, and a little before his game really blew up. Watching his YouTube highlights, I don't recall seeing a guy abuse the rim like Wiggins in a long time.

I hoped to see him suit up for Carolina, but Kansas was definitely a good fit. It will be fun to see him during the annual UNC/KU matchup in the NCAA tournament. With Carolina's luck, this year's will be played in Lawerence.

Thanks. I read some of the articles yesterday and I just couldn't believe what folks were saying. If he's even remotely close to what some folks are saying, he must be really special. Ford says he'd be the #1 player taken any year's draft since Oden over Durant in 2008. It's a lot of hype to live up to.

What will be interesting is seeing how it plays out. Believe it or not, for all their success, Kansas never gets the top players in a class. They'll get a number of 4 star players, even a 5 star every few years, but never the top guy. The closest was Josh Selby, who was probably top-5. And he wasn't even allowed to play for a couple of months, totally throwing off Bill Self's rotation when he got integrated in. For all the Ben McLemore hype, he was the #13 SG in the 2011 class, so there wasn't much pressure for him to be a superstar. Kentucky, Duke and UNC know how to handle these arriving blue chippers; I'm curious to see what happens at KU with Self. It's a little bit of uncharted waters for them.

Julie Hermann out as Rutger's AD before she's even 'in?'

N.J. governor Christie to talk to Rutgers about Hermann hiring
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie plans to speak with Rutgers officials about a report that the athletic director hired to clean up the school's scandal-scarred program quit as Tennessee's women's volleyball coach 16 years ago after her players complained she ruled through humiliation, fear and emotional abuse.

Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak says the governor is aware of the report about Julie Hermann in The Star-Ledger of Newark, but wants to get more details before commenting.

"He's not going to make any judgments at this time," Drewniak said in an email to The Associated Press on Sunday.

The Star-Ledger reported that Tennessee players wrote the mentality cruelty they suffered when Hermann was coach was unbearable, adding she called them "whores, alcoholics and learning disabled."

Hermann was hired May15 to replace the ousted Tim Pernetti, who was let go after basketball coach Mike Rice was fired for abusive behavior.

The 49-year-old Hermann is scheduled to take over at Rutgers on June 17. She is set to become the first woman to run the Scarlet Knights' athletic program and one of three female ADs at the 124 schools playing at college football's top tier.
The full article is much longer. Didn't want to post the whole thing here.

Bummed to hear about the passing of former Miami University coach Charlie Coles today...such a great personality. He took over my senior year there, and holds the record for MAC basketball wins. R.I.P.

Re: Official College Hoops 2013 Off-Season and Coaching Carousel Thread

It's looking more and more like P.J. Hairston has taken a huge step towards jeopardizing his playing career at UNC, not to mention the team's prospects for next season. What started out looking like a boneheaded mistake from a college athlete (misdemeanor pot possession, driving w/o a license) has now blown into a much more serious situation (gun found on the ground by the car, reports of an ounce and a half of weed in the car). What a dumbass.

Mark Turgeon is slowly but surely building a big-time winner at Maryland.

I'm a believer in what Turgeon's doing there, and landing a couple of top local prospects is a nice change of pace for the program, but lets wait until he makes his first NCAA tournament at the school before we go too overboard.

Exactly. Lets see it on the court. Not what's on paper, based on some ratings system of recruits.

Re: Official College Hoops 2013 Off-Season and Coaching Carousel Thread

From Andy Katz re: future F4 and E8 sites:

The NCAA will have a portal available in July on its website for Final Four sites to make proposals for 2017-2020; a decision on sites for those years will be made later in 2014. The NCAA won't put any restrictions on the proposals, meaning that a city that doesn't have a dome can make an offer and the NCAA will discuss it. The NCAA has made one decision on domes -- it is done with them in regional finals. Mark Lewis, the NCAA's vice president in charge of championships, said using domes for regionals was a trial run for future Final Fours. But the upcoming Final Four sites have already had the dry run, so the NCAA doesn't need to do this anymore. Lewis said regional finals should be in arenas, and that will be the plan going forward. The next three Final Fours are in Arlington, Texas, in 2014; Indianapolis in 2015; and Houston in 2016.

I'd say it's a brilliant move, she may be quite busy.
