I was cheering for Tommy but Ferrer proves once again that he (almost) never loses to lower ranked players.

Good win for Murray yesterday. Didn't look like he had much of a chance after the first set.

Davis Cup: US vs Serbia and Canada vs Italy

I was watching the doubles yesterday (Canada on tv and the US online) and both matches ended in 5 sets, 15-13 in the 5th. Odd...

Canada won and now lead 2-1. US lost and trail 1-2 (I was surprised the Bryan Bro's lost).

Going to the semifinals of the Houston tournament this week. A decent field for a small 250 level tourney. Haas, Almagro, Isner, Monaco, and Querrey are here.

Re: 2013 ATP/WTA Tennis Thread

Got to see Almagro v Williams and Isner v Monaco. First match sucked because an Almagro beatdown of Williams was almost certain. That being said, that backhand of Almagro's is a thing of beauty.

I've seen Isner play in person before so I wasn't as awed by his serve as I was the first time. Still, it is really impressive to see a dude so big move pretty well on clay...and beat arguably a top 5 clay courter in the world. Great match.

Onto Monte Carlo now. Nadal going for his NINTH STRAIGHT title there. Djokovic is going to try and play through a bum ankle.

Re: 2013 ATP/WTA Tennis Thread

I have no idea how that guy made it to a semis, his career ATP record going into the tourney was 1-5. Seems there's always one no name who makes it that far in this tournament. I saw Ryan Sweeting beat Karlovic two years ago and he went on to win the tournament (beat Nishikori).

Can't believe this city hosted the Masters finals in 2003 and 2004. That was probably my best chance to see Fed play in person, but I was a teen back then and couldn't afford a ticket. Living in Montreal I imagine you've had the opportunity to see Fed live?

Honestly, I'd never heard of a male player named Williams, I thought you made a typo.

Yeah, saw Fed many times. Been going to the Montreal Masters forever. Even worked there as a line judge, driver (that was fun), etc... I used to be quite involved with tennis when I was younger.

Yea some 22 year old named Rhyne Williams. He's a career journeyman for sure.

That's awesome, you even got to stand on the courts with these guys. Jealous. I think I will make a trip to Indian Wells next year to see Federer play.

Djokovic is going to play on a bum ankle. He barely beat Youzhny today. No way he makes it far in this tournament, he'll pull out, retire, or lose within the next couple matches. If not, major respect to Djokovic.

Son of a bitch! I picked him to lose early in my fantasy bracket, that was ruined. Actually I'm happy for Djokovic, hope he gets that French Open title he so desperately wants.

Re: 2013 ATP/WTA Tennis Thread

Watching Rosol and Simon play their semi in Bucharest right now. I don't have the Tennis Channel but Roundtable does

Have been to the SAP a couple times here in San Jose and went to the US Open back in '05. Was thinking about trying to catch the YEC in London in November this year but I'll be sticking to the plan and visiting Ireland in September. It would be awesome to see a tournament in another country though.

Any of you guys to to the boards at MTF or Tennis Warehouse?

Grigor "Baby Fed" Dimitrov beat Djokovic yesterday. Is this finally the year he breaks out?

And Nishikori beat Fed today which isn't that surprising to me considering Fed hasn't played for 2 months. That said, Nishikori played very well and it's refreshing to see some of these youngsters step up.

Wawrinka vs Nadal in the final. Wawrinka is playing really well, he's a sleeper to win the French Open.

Andy Murray pulled out of his match today due to lower back pain, says it's been a problem since 2011. He also said there's a good chance he misses the French Open.

I read Tennis Warehouse every once in a while. There are a number of sensible people there, but then there are Nadal/Federer/Djokovic contingents that makes it a pain to read sometimes.

Re: 2013 ATP/WTA Tennis Thread

ESPN and the USTA agreed to a deal today that will give ESPN full broadcast rights to the US Open starting in 2015. As much as I can't stand alot of the talking heads on ESPN, they do a really professional broadcast of the matches themselves and AIR THEM LIVE. No more tape delayed matches via CBS!
They will air every match via WatchESPN and ESPN3. TV Cameras on all 17 courts...really nice.

I've been struggling to catch tennis lately, Verizon decided to move the Tennis channel to an even higher tier/separate add-on package which I don't have.

Murray must be really messed up if he misses the French.

Re: 2013 ATP/WTA Tennis Thread

I hope he skips the tournament. He is no threat to win Roland Garros and being healthier come Wimbledon is great for tennis cause that Major is a a true battle all of the big 4 can win. At the French he is kind of just a *ockblocker to a Berdych or DelPo type to pull an upset and win it all.

Re: 2013 ATP/WTA Tennis Thread

Roland Garros - The French Open

Draw is out! Djokovic and Nadal in one half, Federer and Ferrer in the other. Potential quarters:

Djokovic vs Tipsarevic
Nadal vs Gasquet or Wawrinka

Ferrer vs Berdych
Federer vs Tsonga

Djokovic could have a tricky first few rounds with Goffin/Dodig/Dimitrov (who beat him in Madrid).
Nadal might get Rosol in the 3rd (but this ain't grass) and then Nishikori.
Fed has it pretty easy at the start before he gets a potential string of Frenchman all the way through the quarters (Benneteau, Simon, Tsonga).

I don't see Del Potro anywhere so I assume he pulled out because of injury.
