Holmgren says he'll listen to anybody about their coaching vacancy. He's kinda washed up at this point, isn't he? Maybe he'd be ok if he was just coaching.

Well that was quick. There are reports our there that the Cards are a stone's throw away from signing Andy Reid to coach the team. I'm not happy about this if it means Ray Horton is going to jump ship. I think he should be given the shot as coach.

Re: 2012-2013 NFL Offseason Thread

Makes sense. For all his damn faults, Reid has proven that he can develop QB's. They'll keep Kolb (think Reid wanted to keep him over Vick) and draft an OT with the top 10 pick. The RBs for Arizona are suspect so he'll chuck it alot. It means that Fitz will get an increase in targets and catches.

It'll also mean more fun in watching Andy Reid and clock management issues.

When he's got a horrible offensive line Rivers is mediocre. When he's got a good offensive line and decent receivers he's one of the 5 or 6 best QB's in the league.

He hasn't had a good offensive line since 2010. Look at his numbers up through 2010 - they are the statistics of an elite QB. He just had a soft head coach whose personality was adopted by the whole team.

Now it IS possible that Rivers has become Jim Everett (shellshocked) and will never recover his top form. If that's the case then the Chargers need to replace him. But until they get a better O-Line we won't know. Up through 2010 Rivers had far better stats than Eli Manning did.

I hope the Browns pony up whatever money that Chip Kelly wants and get him in Cleveland.

Sending a guy to Cleveland... that's just cruel.

Mortensen is on Mike & Mike and he thinks Reid and the Chiefs might get a deal done soon. He cancelled his visit to Arizona last night.

He didn't cancel it. He pushed it back a day or so. Honestly, I'd be OK with that. While I think Reid would be a good coach here, I'm still rooting for Ray Horton to get the job.

Edit: Maybe seeing the writing on the wall, the Cards have also requested permission to speak with Todd Haley.

And it does look like Reid to KC is pretty much done. How quickly things move.

Just saw a tweet that a Philly source said KC did not make a formal offer so Reid will still talk to Arizona and San Diego.

Yeah, but could he get away with wearing slimming black on the sidelines in KC or Arizona? He needs to go to Chicago.

And lets face it....if it came down to AZ or KC for Andy, we all know he's picking KC. He's gotta go for BBQ over Mexican.

Re: 2012-2013 NFL Offseason Thread

Is Reid still a good coach? What has he done with good to very good talent the last few years?
The guy should take some time off and reflect a bit. He spent 14 years in Phillly with the ups and downs of his son (and finally his death). I'm thinking Andy should take a year or two off and be a dad or a husband or sleep in a little bit. I think that guy is going to die on the sidelines like Joe Pa.

Clearly they took him to a BBQ joint before he was supposed to get on that plane.

Pretty fast. I wonder which token black guy KC interviewed.

Re: 2012-2013 NFL Offseason Thread

It's an interesting hire for KC. Reid can develop QBs and god knows KC needs one of those badly. I just question them giving him control over personnel since that was part of the reason why he got booted from Phily. On the other hand, Pioli sounds like a giant jerk who has alienated a whole bunch of people in that organization. Oh yeah, downgrade Jamaal Charles in FF since Reid will just chuck it all day.

The Cards can just hire Ray Horton. Bills, Bears, and Browns will fight for Chip Kelly services. I wonder how well Cutler would fare in Kelly's offense.

I don't know if I would want him, but the Eagles surely will talk to the guy.

Then there's Bill O'Brien who if he goes to the Eagles, I'll give him a pass. If he goes elsewhere, he's an epic douche.

It's so great to be talking about hiring a new coach! Should have happened last year.

Yeah, totally forgot that the Eagles were in the mix as well. The Bills also interviewed Lovie Smith. He's probably their backup plan if/when Kelly signs with someone else.

That's just crazy. What has he really done? He stunk it up in KC and outside of injuries he helped screw up the Steelers offense.
He had some decent OC stats with the Cardinals, but they also had Kurt Warner throwing to some good receivers.
Living in KC during some of his tenure there, most of the fans laughed at him. One...because he was a golf coach and had never played football, and two...because he was such a hot head that knew better than anyone else, don't dare question his actions.

Re: 2012-2013 NFL Offseason Thread

Bill O' Brien interviewed with Cleveland earlier this week. He's probably the backup plan/option b for whichever team (primarily Browns and Eagles) loses the Chip Kelly race.

There's also the part about who becomes the Penn St. head coach if O'Brien leaves. Note to PSU--please hire Mike Munchak.

The Cards should just hire Ray Horton and be done with it. He's done a great job with their defense and deserves a chance at a HC job.

The coaching carousel is basically waiting on Kelly and Reid. Reid seems to have picked KC. After Kelly gets hired somewhere next week, we should see Lovie Smith hired. Then the coordinators (Arians, McCoy etc) should get the remaining jobs with Wiseanhunt maybe getting the Buffalo or SD job.
