The last time a regular season MVP also won the World Series was the Tigers in 84. Decent chance it happens again now, with either team.

Giants in 6.
Nothing against the Tigers, I just really want to see Zito outpitch Verlander tomorrow. It would just be a cool story if he did.

Go Giants. This team was completely rebuilt after the 2010 series win with only 1 position player starting from the 2010 run. It is amazing what Bouchy has done with the team to get them to this position.

Love both teams, but I have to root for my hometown team, the Detroit Tigers!

Re: MLB 2012 Playoffs, World Series Edition
Interesting facts about this World Series:
The Giants are in the World Series for the 22nd time. The Tigers are in for the 11th time. The Giants have won 6, the Tigers, 4.
The Tigers and Giants have never met in the World Series before. In fact, the only other time both teams have made the postseason in the same year was 1987, when both teams lost in the LCS.
The Tigers are the first team since the 1999 Atlanta Braves to face both teams from a single media market in the same postseason. The Giants pulled this off in 1951, when they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in a 3 game playoff for the NL Pennant, and lost to the Yanks in the World Series. Bonus points for the Giants as they were in same media market as well, and for the fact there was no playoff system at the time.
The Giants lead the all time series against the Tigers 7-5. The Giants are 4-2 at home and 3-3 in Detroit. They last met in 2011, with the Giants taking 2 of 3 at Comerica Park.

Re: MLB 2012 Playoffs, World Series Edition

This is the one aspect of the two wild card system that bugs me. As an example, one of the potential reasons the Cardinals beat out the Dodgers for that 2nd wildcard is that they had an additional 11 or 12 games against the worst 4 teams in the NL. Hard to know if that would have been the difference but playing the worst 4 teams that much less certainly didn't help the Dodgers chances.
Having divisions is now pretty arbitrary, but in most years the winner is at least among the best teams in the league (or at least in the Top 5). This year was a bit of an anomaly as the Tigers would have finished 4th in either the AL West or AL East with their record, but at least teams competing for a division winner spot in the playoffs are playing similar schedules (minus some interleague game differences).
