All the other skits and workers are still in character, but I can't believe they can't get another person (other than Vince) to go out there and do some kind of commentary. To just let Cole sit out there by himself is pretty bad and he looks really really shaken up.

Oh well, he pretty much laid it out there. No more commentary for the rest of the show.

Cole still ringside. There's just a weird vibe now.

Well this is eerie as hell, with no commentary.

Wrestling always seems weird without the commentary.

Re: The September 2012 Pro Wrestling Thread - Night of Surrender

So, out of respect for Lawler, no further commentary. What are they going to say, they learned from the Owen Hart thing? They didn't stop the show out of respect for him. They're not stopping the show, but making some kind of nod to it. Cole won't/can't announce, but Jeff Jarrett went out there in tears for his match.

(The worst part is, through all of this, there's still a part of me that wonders "is this the ultimate swerve/screwjob in the works. I don't know that I can believe anything the WWE says any more, even if/when it's true.)

** I wasn't watching when Lawler's match. Did anything weird happen during it that may have caused this?

Nothing too weird, King looked ok, no awkward bumps. And he looked fine after he changed and was announcing until that moment it went silent. First I noticed the crowd and then that the announce desk went silent.

Gee, Hart comparing his feud with HBK to the Punk/Cena feud. Guess I was right on that.

Re: The September 2012 Pro Wrestling Thread - Night of Surrender

From backstage, nobody is paying attention to the show and most of the guys are in various groups praying. They don't know anything more than what is being said on TV.

Jerry Lawler was hooked up to oxygen when he was being taken out. The belief is that Jerry Lawler suffered a serious heart attack but that is not a medical diagnosis, but a backstage belief.

They just announced in the building that the Pat Patterson Appreciation Night segment was being postponed due to what happened.

Bryan Alvarez ‏@bryanalvarez

Among the wrestlers in the back, none of this official or confirmed, belief is heart attack or stroke

Re: The September 2012 Pro Wrestling Thread - Night of Surrender

WTF did they expect to happen? They have been pushing a 62 year old former pro wrestler every week against these younger guys ...

Anyways, this Cena-Punk-Hart segment is terrible. They are just rambling ....

Will Heyman be back with Punk before NOC or will he debut there?

Not that any of you want to hear it, but go to this link and a few seconds into where this link starts the video at you hear Lawler on mic stat to breathe very oddly, and then silence and can see everything taking place in the background...

Hang in there Jerry, we're not done being entertained by you yet!

I didn't mind the silence during matches and promos, but the awkward silence was when the social media & NOC graphics would fly by and nobody hyped the matches or said why tweets were zipping by.

Re: The September 2012 Pro Wrestling Thread - Night of Surrender

PWInsider reports that Jerry Lawler flew to Montreal from working weekend independent wrestling shows in Aruba so he did have a long day of travel before wrestling and working RAW.

A fan at ringside noted that it sounded like Lawler began snoring right before he collapsed. Before that, Lawler communicated with a ringside employee. Lawler grabbed his arm and turned blue as he fell, which could be signs of a heart attack. EMT's and WWE doctors tended to Lawler immediately. His shirt was ripped open so they could begin medical assistance. Lawler was rushed backstage via stretcher and then taken to a local hospital via ambulance.

After Lawler was taken away, the WWE ring crew quickly cleaned up at ringside as it appeared Lawler may have gotten sick before he collapsed.

Ok, no more ring action for Lawler. At least he can retire on a win. I hope it turns out to be a heart attack and not a stroke.

Reading now he was clinically dead for 20 minutes.
Man, I hope he's able to speak, function.

I just read that he got CPR and oxygen backstage. That tidbit about being clinically dead must be new. Get well better King.

I gotta give Cole some props here for tending to Lawler and calling the match while in trying circumstances.

There's no way he was clinically dead for that long and brought back with any functionality. I'm guessing that 20 minute number is going to be a misquote or something that was made in error. Maybe he was out for 2 minutes.

I mean we're talking medical miracle here if that's the case.

I'm not saying you made the error, I'm guessing Smith Hart misquoted his friend, or the friend was mistaken.

I'm in the same boat as you on that. As a long-time fan, I'm so used to being worked that I have a tough time believing when anything big like this happens. I genuinely hope WWE wouldn't be shitty enough to fake something like this.

Re: The September 2012 Pro Wrestling Thread - Night of Surrender

* Lawler wrestled both Friday and Saturday nights in Aruba before heading back to the States and flying to Montreal for RAW yesterday. People with Lawler over the weekend said he had no signs of health problems

* Lawler, still listed in stable condition, had either some kind of heart surgery or a Cardiac catheterization, reports are conflicting. Cardiac catheterization is where a catheter is inserted into a chamber in the heart for investigational and interventional purposes

* There was some concern about blood being cut off to Lawler's brain and potential damage from that

* While Lawler's condition is stable, it's described as still a very serious situation

* Vince McMahon was said to be right by Lawler's side through the entire ordeal
Here's a fan video of Jerry being worked on:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=sjeSWElxhPw

Re-watching the match, i'm amazed Cole kept it going. I don't think I'll ever say anything negative about him again.

I can understand having that feeling as it happened. I can even understand it during the rest of the show. But the whole thing was hidden from the TV audience. It wasn't addressed at all by Cole until Lawler had been taken backstage. Cole mentioned every time he spoke that this was not part of the entertainment. The only other time I can remember them saying that was when Owen fell.

If they're going to work people, then they're going to show the work. They're not going to try and hide it as much as they can. Cole isn't going to try and carry on with calling a match as Lawler is "collapsing" unless he's really trying to hide it. Finally, they're not going to take most of their last hour of RAW before the PPV to cut off their announcers who are trying to sell the show.

Finally, there is no way in hell they'd run something like this so close to election time. Mainstream news outlets have picked up the story, and they HATE to be screwed with.

I'll also add this: I'm never going to be a huge fan of Cole (he was decent on SmackDown with Tazz and JBL), but he handled this probably better than JR would have. I'm sure JR could have composed himself and got the job done, but Lawler is one of his closest friends. That would be a very hard position for anybody to be in, but for it to also be a close friend, that's rough. Cole did some of his best work last night hands down.
