Re: MLB Wednesday, May 2, 2012

This would have to go down as one of the most bizarre plays you'll see--an infield double, caused by a pop-up lost in smoke from fireworks:

http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?co...y_21080365&v=3

Accept my apology for not knowing how to embed the clip.

There's an embed button on the clip, and I just pasted that mess of code into this post

EDIT: I didn't see it another clip I was watching so YMMV

I saw that late last night on quick pitch. was totally hilarious. CLE also had like 2 other errors in that inning.

Re: MLB Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Hamilton has been amazing so far this year, but his fragility is certainly worrisome. Him not being in the lineup again last night certainly hurt our chances. I'll be glad to leave Toronto's crappy astroturf so we can get him and Beltre back in the lineup.

Thanks, David! I didn't see the embed button when I watched it. At least that's the story I'm sticking with.

And on that particular play, I normally hate when an official scorer gives a hit to the batter for what should have been an out. But that would have been a brutal error to charge to someone who had little to no chance of seeing a ball like that.

On another note, I just noticed Jeff Suppan is making the start in SD tonight. I thought he had long since retired after stealing making all those millions from the Brewers. And now he's back in the majors facing them.

Barring an incredible comeback, Texas is going to lose back-to-back regular season games for the first time since Aug. 23-25. In fact the only time they've lost back-to-back at all since then was in games 6-7 of the World Series.

Tigers bats and relievers sure don't do much to help Verlander in the W department.

Thanks for that video cardsfan111 - I didn't see that part of the game. I was watching the box score on Yahoo and I was trying figure out what the hell happened.

There was another play later in the game where I think Dunn made 1st safely on a dropped ball. Don't think it was the smoke then.

Yeah, it's brutal either to someone's fielding or someone's ERA. Now and then people float the concept of a "team error" for situations like that, which makes some sense.

Better fire the manager, like Tom Thibodeau

The box score on Yahoo for that play with the smoke says "A. De Aza doubled to pitcher ". I was like WTF?

I saw the double to pitcher as well. That's what made me look it up.

Re: MLB Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Justin Smoak is batting 7th today. Manager says "You stick with something that you believe in, to a certain point, but ultimately, we need to get more production out of the middle of our lineup. I think we’ll leave him down there for a little while, but my hope would be we can get him back to the middle of our lineup, because I think that’s where he belongs."

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/4928/mat-gamel

Mat Gamel out for the year with a torn ACL for the Brewers. Taylor Green is going to have to pick it up assuming they promote him to fill the slot. I wouldn't be too surprised if they moved Kottaras to first and brought up a catcher instead.

I think the ump realized he goofed it.... usually when a manager argues a call for a really long time and doesn't get tossed the ump realizes he goofed it and won't toss the guy out.

His BABIP is around .600 which is crazy (and not sustainable for the whole season).

Gotta admit, I admire Bryce Harper's hustle. He was on 2nd with 2 out just now. Ball hit to 2B, which was booted. He came around to the plate and was basically out, but he used his hands to hit Montero's glove and knock the ball out, allowing him to score. I appreciate the hustle.

Braves with a six-run inning thus far against Halladay, topped off with a McCann grand slam.
I was really tired of hearing so much about Harper, but it's been good watching him so far. I hope he keeps the hustle in his game, and his arm is killer.

Cards are beating the snot out of the Pirates tonight, up 12-1 after 3. Beltan has 2 home runs and 7 RBI. A.J. Burnett shut the Cards down last time he faced them. Tonight he gives up 12 earned in 2 2/3 IP.
