Because of weather?

Frankly, I was a bit surprised that they scheduled this race for him to begin with. I think he's better suited for the Kelso at Belmont. Saratoga doesn't suit him well.

Romans said he had had a slight cough.

I suppose he'll run in one of the graded stakes races at Belmont.

I hate hearing that what with the way horses are being retired left and right.

btw: Paynter is much improved. He's eating well. He lost over 100 lbs.

That was a walk for Emcee particularly with Jersey Town on the rail. Yikes.

Emcee exploded at the 1/4 pole. He went by them like they were standing still.

Jackson Bend was never in it.

Figures...those were the 2 I had on the back end of my lost DD. No doubt we'll see both of those (fingers crossed) in the BCC. The BCC is going to be very wide open and a great betting race. I kind of like Mucho Macho Man a little better at 1 1/4 more.

To Honor and Serve is the winner. MMM is second.

I won a little money on this race.

Once again J. Velazquez out-foxed Mike Smith. He boxed MMM on the rail and kept him there until he made his move on THAS.

From thoroughbreds to quarter horses. A 6/1 shot ran wire to wire to win The All-American Futurity at Ruidoso, NM. The purse was $2,400,000.00.

Paynter has been diagnosed as having laminitis.

Update: Walking around - eating well - gaining weight. There's an excellent chance he's going to recover, and there's a good chance that he'll run again.

Given the way he closed, 1 3/4m wouldn't appear to be a problem.

There hasn't been an English Triple Crown won since 1970, and that's the only one since 1935. Only 3 horses, including Camelot, have won the first 2 legs since 1970. However, it doesn't appear that the T.C. is hyped as much there as it is here. For example, Sea the Stars won the first 2 in 2009, but didn't run the St. Leger.
Camelot goes for the English Triple Crown tomorrow.

Well that reminds me of attempts for the American triple crown. Camelot loses by half a length. I thought the jockey did a poor job - kept him too far back.

Wise Dan, under a hand ride from John V., wins the Woodbine Mile.

He's a hell of a good horse.

$1 Million Cotillion at Parx draws only 4 horses:
1 Moment in Dixie
2 Questing
3 My Miss Aurelia
4 Dixie Strike

27 were nominated to the race.

That's unusual. A million dollar race and only 4 horses running in it.

How is the purse divided?

Re: Horse Racing -- The Sport of Kings -- 2012 and beyond

$1,000,000 Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II, Race 11, Post 6:16 p.m), 3-Year-Olds, 1 1/8 Miles

2. Casual Trick, S Elliott, 114, N Zito, 8/1

3. Handsome Mike, I Ortiz Jr, 114, L Mora, 20/1

4. Alpha, R A Dominguez, 124, K McLaughlin, 9/5

5. Junebugred, A Cintron, 119, S Hobby, 20/1

6. Golden Ticket, D Cohen, 124, K McPeek, 5/2

7. Csaba, R Maragh, 114, P A Gleaves, 5-1

8. Macho Macho, C S Nakatani, 122, S Asmussen. 4-1

Alpha & Golden Ticket finished in a dead heat in The Travers. They both are eligible for the BCC.

I like Macho Macho a little.

Re: Horse Racing -- The Sport of Kings -- 2012 and beyond

Cotillion S.
1 1/16 Miles | Fillies | 3 Year Olds | G1 STAKES | Purse: $1,000,000

# PP HORSE JOCKEY TRAINER ML

1 1 Moment in Dixie
ML: 6-1 J. Lezcano
114 Lbs J. Toner

2 2 Questing (GB)
ML: 1-1 I. Ortiz, Jr.
124 Lbs K. McLaughlin

3 3 My Miss Aurelia
ML: 8-5 C. Nakatani
117 Lbs S. Asmussen

4 4 Dixie Strike
ML: 4-1 R. Dominguez
122 Lbs M. Casse

I thought Questing would be the ML favorite. I didn't believe she would be an even money favorite.

My Miss Aurelia has a 7-lb weight advantage. That is signficant. If she's anything like she was as 2-year old, she's the horse to beat. She's proven she can run at the distance of 1 1/16 miles.

Post position doesn't mean anything in a 4-horse field.

I just noticed - Nakatani is riding My Miss Aurelia. Lepareaux rode her in the last race at Saratoga.

She's back: My Miss Aurelia wins The Cotillion by a nose over Questing to remain undefeated.

The time for the 1 1/16 was 1:44 & change.

Big upset in The PA Derby - longshot Handsome Mike wins. Macho Macho finishes second. So much for the importance of The Travers.

The Travers (and 3yo division) became unimportant the second Paynter dropped out.

Nice duel in the Cotillion. Now lets see MMA run against Questing in the LC with equal weight.

Re: Horse Racing -- The Sport of Kings -- 2012 and beyond

Asmussen had a pretty good couple of hours yesterday. His horse wins a million dollar race, finishes second in another million dollar race, and wins a Grade II at Belmont.

btw: Did you watch The Cotillion? You couldn't watch it on TVG. They were busy bringing racing at The Fairplex - really important claiming races.

The Travers hasn't meant anything since Bernadini?

Optimizer is now undefeated on the turf. He's won two graded stakes races in a row. He didn't do that well at Oaklawn - of course that was on the dirt. D. Wayne Lukas is back.

Saw a replay online since TVG doesn't carry PARX.
