Looks like Jones is only getting a 15 month retroactive ban from USADA, he can fight next month. While Werdum just got 2 years. USADA is officially a joke.

Ha, yea, his suspension ends 6 days before the Madison Square Garden card, which doesn't have a headliner at the moment...bet that changes soon (Jones/Gus 2)

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

That Khabib/Conor presser was crazy. Conor was off the rails while Khabib was like the Terminator. Any doubts I had about Khabib winning are gone now. I wish there was a way they could both lose though tbh. They're both basically thugs. Although Khabib is probably worse considering his ties to those warlord gangsters from Chechnya. I hope next year at this time Tony Ferguson is the Champ.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Conor eventually got to Khabib, as is his gameplan for these press conferences. Khabib was keeping his cool and staying calm and collected, but the trash talk finally irritated and angered him. That's a win for Conor and gives him an edge in the fight. The mental part of fighting is very important.

I hate to admit it, but this is what sells fights. I wish it could be fair and honest match making, but this shit puts asses in seats. No wolf tickets here. I just wish Conor would say something besides "Fooook yooou"

I have no idea whether this is bullshit or not, but both Poirier and Diaz tweeted tonight that their fight in November is for the inaugural 165 title. Apparently there is a new division.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

That would be some pretty stupid ass shit. I hope its not true. Hopefully its just them going into business for themselves knowing that neither will get the next title shot at 155, no matter what happens.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Just in general, I think more divisions should be added. The positives outweigh (no pun intended) the negatives. I don't want it to go the way of boxing where there is a title at seemingly every 2 lbs, but I like the idea of a 165 division, while increasing the welterweight and middleweight divisions by 5 lbs (so 175 and 190). I would also be open to a 225 class, but the LHW and HW divisions are pretty shallow as it is, so not entirely sold on that.
Obviously the #1 goal here is fighter safety due to the dangerous weight cuts alot of these guys put themselves through. Adding a 165 division would also help the 155 and 170 divisions, as those are the top two weight classes in terms of depth (too much depth, honestly) and give alot of really good unranked fighters a chance to make a name for themselves (and more money) in a new weight class.

Dana White, per an ESPN article today, stated there will not be a 165lb division.

I got Moose by decision tomorrow vs Rory. I'd be pretty surprised if he lost, even though Rory is a great fighter himself.

That Rampage/Wandy fight was actually pretty good all things considered. Its gonna be hard for Chuck/Tito 3 to live up to it.

Speaking of which, I don't know why it didn't end up in Bellator. If Chuck wins there are definitely some interesting washed up legends fights for him there.

Frank Mir Fighting Forrest Griffin
... In Jiu-Jitsu Tourney

Two ex-UFC champions have signed on to fight each other in a jiu-jitsu event in Vegas ... TMZ Sports has learned.
Frank Mir (former UFC heavyweight champ) will take on Forrest Griffin (former UFC light heavyweight champ) at the Black Belt CBD Invitational on October 20.
Griffin hasn't taken a pro fight since July 2012 -- when he beat up Tito Ortiz at UFC 148.
As for Mir, he fought in April at Bellator 198 -- when he was defeated by Fedor Emelianenko in the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

picks for Saturday:

Khabib beats Conor. I'm as sure Khabib is gonna beat Conor as I was that Aldo was gonna beat Conor. Hah. That said I'll stick by Khabib as my pick.

Tony Ferguson beats Anthony Pettis, extending his win streak to 11 and doesn't get any closer to a title shot.

Derrick Lewis beats Alexander Volkov. He says his back is healed. If thats true I think he walks him down and finds the TKO.

Sergio Pettis beats Juicy da Silva. probably by decision, but I hope Pettis steps his game up and gets the finish.

Nik Lentz beats Gray Maynard by having just a little more gas left in the tank.

I don't really like either Khabib or Conor. I think they are both goons. That said, I really hope that whoever wins, fights GSP next, because I think GSP fucks up both of them. The hype would be better for Conor/GSP but GSP/Khabib would be a more intriguing fight as I don't think Khabib could take GSP down.

Khabib taps Conor, then immediately hops the fence and goes after someone from Conor’s corner and all hell breaks loose.

And someone from Khabib’s corner jumped in the cage and decked Conor; this is insane.

I'm on my hands and knees praying right now that GSP gets to fight Khabib. It will be the biggest baby face vs heel MMA fight EVER.

Khabib is a Russian gangster thug. He's gonna be a bigger draw that Conor now. He's the gonna be the most hated man on the planet now.

Khabib may not be fighting for a while.

Sounds like some of Khabib's entourage are on their way to jail.

I thought the same thing when Conor attacked a bus.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

I have a friend there who says the same thing. He's been recording fights all over the arena. I'm sure they'll all end up online.

Also apparently they said Khabib was stripped of the title over the speakers. To try and calm things down.

I don't think he was stripped. You could hear Dana White tell Khabib that he wasn't going to present the belt to Khabib in the octagon because he didn't want people throwing things into the octagon.

I know, I'm saying I think it was just a tactic to calm things down.
